That’s one of the things I loved about her house was how she has all this stuff but it is all wonderful art pieces; she has a way of stacking things and arranging them so they didn’t feel like clutter but to me seemed warm and personal.
yes, for sure. i was wondering where she sleeps!
Probably not. Every thing in that house has been selected and is cherished.
Kondo has examples of clients whose place doesn’t look “decluttered” when it’s done, but decluttered is what it is.
But never mind the house. I want that woman’s life. How wonderful she is recognised and celebrated for her (extensive) skills.
Same
yeah, true, but part of the Kondo aesthetic is minimalist, and this woman is definitely not a minimalist. that’s what i meant.
It’s really not. Kondo talked about that in her books, and it came up in episode 2 of the Netflix show. If you look at the “after” shots of the homes on the show, they’re not minimalist. They still have lots of stuff. Kondo makes a point that people can keep their collections and other things. She even encourages people to keep things when she’s concerned they’re overdoing getting rid of things.
Most importantly, it’s the owners themselves who are deciding what stays and what goes.
Kondo herself seems to be a minimalist, but she’s not teaching minimalism.
oh, interesting. of course, i haven’t read her book or watched the show – i just know from what i’ve seen mentioned and written about everywhere else these days, haha.
And soooo many people are making it sound like she wants everyone to live without possessions or furniture.
It’s so weird, because she has such a kind, positive approach. I guess a lot of people are terrified of taking stock of their stuff.
I’m terrified making decisions like that.
I’m not terrified of it, I just do much better organizing with some chemical help.
Not sure how this guy’s YouTube Channel got recommended, but it is nice to watch him make these dolls
I know it will shock you that many did not retain their value. However, weirdly interesting to watch. This appraiser KNOWS her Beanies.
I was terrified of it even while I was doing it all last year. I got rid of so much… but I feel like I have more. It’s strange. It was a harder process than anyone could understand. It took so long and dredged up so much painful shit but slowly the overall “letting go” aspect kicked in and I began to have a meaningful existence with the space I inhabit again… I’m actually not familiar with Kondo herself so much as I didn’t read the book or watch the show ever but the anxiety is real because if you wanted to deal with all that stuff there wouldn’t be clutter.
That’s the part I really got from her book. She helped me get rid of my anxiety and made me feel good about letting go, so much so I’m looking forward to the next round.
Now you’re making me want to go read this book
Wow! Who was that?
I watched without putting my headphones on, just to look at this neat, traditional dance, then starting having doubts when the wolf went by in the background, like one of those attention tests.
Oh. Is there a slapping head emoji?
I assumed that was a part of the “traditional dance.” The wolf sort of cemented that demented idea. Sorry, it rhymed.
Now here’s a REAL traditional song. Not.
