A couple of years ago Arte had a little series of short interviews with Alan Moore about this and that.
In one of them he said something along the lines that his premise for V for Vendetta turned out to be wrong. He had surmised that it would take a nuclear war to turn Britain into a fascist state, but then it turned out that giving people the right to buy their council flats was enough.
