Apollo 12 made it to the moon. Conrad and Bean were the 1st people to walk on the surface of the moon. But the lunar module was unable to dock with the command module. Conrad made it by eva. Bean did not. The survivors were able to return to Earth.
I think Iāll need to take a break before trying Apollo 13.
I own Hearts of Iron II, but havenāt played it yet, and not IV either. I have played Europa Universalis Rome and Europa Universalis II from the same company/series. They were very in-depth monster games quite fun to play mostly, with lots of details and historical bits and some era-appropriate mechanics, (interesting to play even as a minor power). But to me they made big long games like the Civilization series seem like casual games by comparison. So Iāve had very few plays of them. I would expect HOI to be similar - lots of details and depth, when you get into it, and epically long games if you like that kind of thing.
I got a Switch (MRSP, not rip-off level!). I now have a machine capable of playing Civ again. This could be a problem. (Civ was 50% off, BTW. Better believe I grabbed it.) Soā¦ there goes my time.
I decided to try slither.io while listening to a Twitch panel. Iām not sure itās for me. Itās very pretty, and I like the gameplay well enoughā¦ but at this point, all I want to do is grow my snake. I keep getting killed by more aggressive players, and itās annoying the hell out of me. (Yeah, I know, I do sometimes play an aggressive game, but Iām not always in the mood for it.) I wish there was a solo mode, just you and a few obstacles to avoid.
Edited to add: the app also seems to glitch every few games, though iām not sure if itās the app or my tablet.
Yup, thatās how Iād rather play it. But part of the game mechanic on slither.io is, when your worm/snake dies, it turns into energy orbs that others can eat. So ultra-aggressive jackholes go after fellow players, including encircling them so you canāt do anything but die. I donāt like that part. I just like the mindless challenge of steering my worm/snake, but thereās no solo mode, just PVP or AI opponents. Iām not sure if Iām going to play this one too much.
Thereās been quite a few variants over the years:
Snake Byte is the first one I remember playing.
Many of them (including the one above) are playable at the Internet Archiveās Internet Arcade.
I installed some software so I can play Morrowind. Itās pretty cool! I think I might install some mods do it doesnāt look so bad, though
This weekend I fired up Rebel Galaxy and had a lot of fun getting back into it and playing through some missions and just listening to the āspace-westernā music. It becomes kind of a relaxing state of mind that you can get lost in. Although the battles can get kind of intense.
Iām flying a Barracuda kitted out with equipment mostly in the Mk3 to Mk5 range (slowly upgrading). That ship, being just a corvette, is not super strong, but it is super fast and maneuverable, which fits my play style perfectly. I repeatedly duck in and out of the edge of the enemy formation, get their fighters after me and then let my automated turrets take them out one by one. Then, once their escorts are gone, I head directly to the enemy ship farthest out from the others.
Full-speed ram, haul up alongside and empty broadsides into it while also dropping mines (which immediately attach to the adjacent enemy ship and detonate). If I take much damage, I can just throttle up and run out of enemy range and let the shields replenish and the bots repair the damage, then right back in. Most of the time thatās not needed (hard for them to hit you much when youāre that close). I can take out much larger ships that way.
Other players like to upgrade to the big heavy ships that can take and deal a lot more damage (but are too slow to pursue or get away if theyāre swarmed). The game does a really good job of working for multiple play styles. And having lots of options (you can be a pirate, or a bounty hunter, or a merchant trader, or mercenary, or play the story missions, or just do side missions for money, etc.)
Iāve been absolutely obsessed with the Yakuza series over the past 6 or so months and Iāve been slowly playing through the entire series in the hope I can get through 6 before 7 comes out in November (not likely - Iām barely through 3 - which is actually the fourth game if youāre playing chronologically like I am - and these games are dense with content and long AF to finish if youāre a completist). This reads like any sort of feature film is years out, but Iām excited at the prospect.
Another kvetching SoD post, so skip if youāre inclinedā¦
This last week has seen three updates for Shadow of Death, the main one being the new Demon Invasion event. This is a fifteen-round slugfest against all-new monsters, with awards based on how quickly players can eliminate enemies. Itās actually a lot of fun! For the first time, Iāve been able to get all my characters through the gauntlet, though since it takes me fifteen minutes or so, my score is an E and my rewards are few. But Iām still enjoying it!
But oh boy are these latest updates glitchy. If there are a lot of objects/monsters on screen at one time, the app lags horribly. While one characterās design and abilities got enhanced, another characterās best skill attack got nerfed, and it doesnāt sound like itās going to get fixed any time soon. (Itās incredibly annoying because thatās the one my ranged mage uses to get through tough boss battles, and sheās definitely weaker without it. ) Progress bars are oddly reversed; where they used to start dark and then get highlighted as tasks are completed, they now start light and go dark. That confused the heck out of me when I first saw it. Maybe itās intentional, with it being a stickman game of shadows?)
And ābestā of all, another of my characters has been struck with the āmanipulated dataā glitch. This time itās my hybrid melee/ranged mage. The bug isnāt keeping me out of Arena, but wins I get arenāt recorded, so Iām wasting resources playing it. I have no clue what triggered it this time. It first appeared after losing in Raid Boss. It makes no sense, but this has been an unusually buggy release this time around, and I suspect the second and third updates of the week were unannounced patches.
So another round of FB messagesā¦ >sigh<.
On the plus side, Iām having some fun in Slither.io. (I know I said I probably wouldnāt play it much, but Iām a stubborn wretch, what can I say? )
Iāve found a few strategies to help me out. One is to play a strongly defensive game. Since the game doesnāt penalize me for coiling up on myself, if a smaller player starts making passes at me, I turn to keep my head on the other side of myself, away from them, until they get bored and go awayā¦ or make a mistake and die by hitting me. Then itās free food for me! I stay away from larger players as much as possible. In fact, I like to stay toward the mid- to outer-edges of the circular arena. Thereās not always as much food as there is in the center, but also less other players to worry about. And since I like just cruising around and eating, it suits me just fine.
Most of the time I die pretty small, but Iāve managed to hit the top-10 leaderboard several times now, so I must be doing something right!
Itās not a galaxy brain game, but itās nice when I need some mindless amusement.
Picked up a couple games on Steam, tried them, awful migraine, going to request a refund tomorrow once Iāve recuperated.
I used to play a ton of imported rhythm games on the PS1 and PS2 and the difference between and would constantly trip me up.
Interesting to see Sony changing this up.
Your move, Nintendo. Fix your backwards face buttons.
Ouch.
But the first 2 are worth it? I am considering the Switch port.
I was a huge fan of BG1 back in the day, and active in their communityā¦ but, I havenāt played it in a long time. I know thereās been updates and remastering done, so I donāt know how dated it feels today. BG2 is similar, too.
I need to sit down and actually finish it one of these daysā¦ I have an unfortunate habit with large RPGs of playing through about half, and then getting into a time crunch with work or other things, and coming back a few months later with absolutely no idea what I was trying to accomplish in my saved game. Quest journals are helpful, but thereās always meta-game things I might be doing that arenāt captured in those.
