Handy dandy weird little web sites / tools thread

This is so cool. Put text in a screen for old video games completely accurately.

Ok, im guessing this is a reference to something, but I couldn’t figure out what. I found it hilarious anyway (i.e. to the point of tears) & fell asleep laughing. This AM my wife asked me what was so funny before I fell asleep. I told her that I couldn’t explain why it was so funny (& I really couldn’t).

The “time for a menthol” I cannot explain. It just seemed to be what Mickey was saying.

“Shut up, crime” is a reference to the movie “Super.”

VPN update.

I decided I needed a VPN after the election, in case we end up with a Great Firewall of the USA. I want to be sure to get outside news.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. After doing a lot of reading, I have decided to go with @chgoliz advice and try Proton. Why? Because:

  • They appear to have a relatively non-evil reputation.
  • They are based in Switzerland, so Trump can’t threaten to prosecute them.
  • Their plans start with a free tier. So I can see if I like it first.

This will be for an iPhone. If I had a Macintosh I would probably at least try this:

ETA:
Got curious what Open Toonz was, decided to check it out. Woah, it’s used by Studio Ghibli.

They had it narrowed down to that or Stab-Time. And they still chose wrong.

An unfortunate lapse of judgment.

I just got a new phone, and the only music players it has are like spotify, youtube, and apple music - I just need a player that plays my music and not downloads stuff online… any recommendations for a free one from the play store? Thanks! I have a samsung Galaxy 15 phone… If that makes a difference…

Hmmmm. I’ve only done like 2 seconds work of looking but i do see that VLC For Android exists and can play video and music. Maybe that might fit for what you’re needing?

I don’t really need it to play video, just audio… So, the simpler the better!

I thought i had posted this here previously, don’t recall where i found this site. Could’ve been from TOS, but its come in handy when i was looking for a book and most places had it for over 20 bucks. Through this site i was able to get a brand new hardcover version for 14 bucks

Just think of it as a player that can handle video. I quite like VLC on my desktop and i’ve used it more as a music player than anything else, but if you want something simpler i did another search just now and one top rec is PowerAmp

Thanks! I’ll check them both out and see if they’ll work for my needs!
