Detroit parade was awesome as usual.
Before covid we’d head down there around 5am stake out a spot near the finish, run the Turkey Trot and then meet family and friends.
Now we sit on the lawn of The Detroit Institute Of Arts at the start, we get there about 30 minutes before show time and we’re home before Santa is on TV.
The first photo is the front steps of the DIA.
Kermit had a touch of pink eye this morning.
Two big heads were sneaking a kiss before hitting the parade route.
These are the real stars of the parade. They are a few hundred feet behind Santa and start putting traffic lights and wires across Woodward for 3 miles so the road can be opened alost immediately. There’s well over 50 trucks.
And, oh my gosh, does my house smell amazing right now.
As a Latino we love a good excuse to throw a party or have a family gathering, my fam doesn’t really have any attachment to any of the Thanksgiving folklore or food for that matter. We’ll be having ours on Saturday but i’m expecting my mom to bake two chickens, and a couple of easy sides, i’ll make a salad.
Today me and my partner are being lazy, i got some discounted food through Too Good Too Go. I got 12 misc filled bao from a bao shop for lunch for about 10 bucks. And i bought a meal ahead of time from a Mexican joint, it’s a whole roasted chicken with some sides (charro beans, roasted onions, tortillas) and i’m really looking forward to having it for dinner.
We’re not hosting this year, so I’m not making my spatchcocked smoked turkey - yet. There’s a turkey in the freezer that I will do up right in a couple weeks.
Somehow, I’m in charge of “dinner rolls.” This is a terrible idea. Therefore, I’m making popovers instead. I figure that’s far enough away from a baked good that it’s my best chance to avoid catastrophe, as I am hopeless as a baker.
I absolutely love that the first comment is “Beth sounds like she’s a terrible tipper.”
Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans here!
I hope you have a pleasant, low-stress day, with good food (and plenty of it), and good company, whether family, friends, or both.
I would also like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving if you are celebrating it, and for those who aren’t I hope that there is something that helps make your day wonderful!
Last turkey picture because it’s mostly gone.
Delivered meals to our daughter and her husband, and my mom.
Long day, lots of driving but the turkey was worth it.
Pumpkin pie, bed, and up at 4:30 am to chauffeur my wife around to a couple Black Friday specials because her shopping partner(daughter) is sick.
