OFFS… I think this is probably not necessary, but here we go.
Deficiency of Vitamin A is associated with worse outcomes in measles, especially as related to ocular injury. There is some evidence that the infection itself depletes the body’s Vitamin A supply, mechanism unknown. The recommendation is to give 200k units of Vitamin A every 24 hours x 2 doses in cases of measles, for this reason. And only if an infection exists! There is no preventative function here. MORE IS NOT BETTER!! I know, that is horribly unAmerican to say, but it is true. In high doses, Vitamin A can be quite toxic and cause liver damage and even death. Don’t be stupid, talk to your doc, and for God’s sake, get yourself and your kids vaccinated if you/they are not already!
Don’t waste your time with those. Get some heavy duty protection.
Yes.
A discredited anti-vaccine advocate who has no medical background and who has been disciplined for practicing medicine without a license will reportedly lead a questionable federal study on vaccines and autism—despite a large volume of existing research that has found no link between the two and despite a thorough debunking of claims that vaccines cause autism.
Late Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that David Geier has been hired as a “data analyst” by the Department of Health and Human Services, which is now headed by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent and fervent anti-vaccine advocate. Kennedy and Geier have both long touted the false claim that vaccines cause autism, despite the extensive evidence showing that they do not. In March, HHS directed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reexamine the nonexistent link between vaccines and autism, using funds from taxpayers that could have been directed at other research.
FUUUUUCK!!
I have not had to think about David Geier in over a decade. He is an unrecoverable, unreachable, unthinking asshole who will not ever entertain any fact that does not fit into his preconceived notions. I have argued with him back in the vaccine war days, and he is utterly, inveterately stupid. IOW, he will fit right in with RFK jr and that crew. As an aside, he already thinks he has “proven” that the MMR vaccine causes autism, so this “study” will be rich in bullshit and cherry-picked data. God, what a mess…
I hate to say it, but I know a David Geier, and had to look this gentleman up. Thankfully, it isn’t the man I know. My David Geier is a smart, fact based person who would go medieval on this diptwit for suggesting vaccines are anything less than an effective means to prevent horrible diseases.
(Edit: typo )
If only people like your David were candidates for jobs – any jobs! – in the Pro Disease Administration.
(Just a mean but appropriate aside: I saw it pointed out that Geier is German for “vulture.” Yet another case of nominative determinism in action.)
They’ve changed the name to the Centers for Disease Circulation.
About to be a shitload of cavities in Utah.
I am truly baffled at how preventative healthcare became a target for these assholes, but it certainly seems to be. Fluoridation, vaccination, prenatal care, clean air, clean water, pure foods, even education. These have all become “enemies of the people.” And the folks who will be hurt most by this seem to be all for it. I do not get it…
It’s because they see it as the government controlling the one type of human being it is still legal to control completely: your own children.
We’re old enough to remember when being conservative meant respecting authority. Now, it’s ‘how dare authority tell us what to do with our own chattel?’.
Probably because it’s not just benefiting rich white men, but all of society… It’s that thought which drives them to such extremes.
Yeah, that too. It’s just straight authoritarian thinking. They’ll tolerate living in an authoritarian society, so long as they can lord it over someone else - their family, people below them socially, people at work, etc.
The Wages of Trumpness
Anyone here a fan of fasting?
I’ve never tried, but I find claims about its rejuvenating effects intriguing. Trouble is, so many of them seem like outlandish woo that I hardly know what or who to believe about it.
In college I had a friend who fasted and lost quite a bit of weight. It always struck me as being potentially really dangerous; you would have to know quite a bit about your need for supplemental vitamins and minerals. I don’t think I would try it without the supervision of a medical professional.
I’ve not done proper fasting, but I can imagine the body can do some interesting things to help you get through this dry spell, just like the huge dose of endorphins you get when you jump into really cold water, I could see something similar happening as your body pulls out all of the stops to keep you hunting/gathering…
