We’re a balmy 12ºF with 20-30 mph winds, making the wind chill factor -7ºF.
Every time I think I want to go back to my maternal homeland, I remember the winters up there!
Just past that lovely point when °C and °F can agree. And they both agree, it’s too damn cold.
Last week we went from daytime highs of -17ºC (about 1ºF) to +13ºC (55ºF) in about 6 days, a jump of 30 degrees C. Wednesday saw about 10cm of ice pellets (think kosher salt) followed by freezing rain. Right now it’s -5C with wind gusts to 59 km/h. I expect the dust storms to start any time now.
By “up there” do you mean Canada? Quite a few parts of the country are milder than Chicago, much milder in the case of Vancouver.
It’s a dry cold.
We went from a high of 22F to a high of nearly 70F in 6 days – mid-Atlantic.
Nice. We went from -18 to +42 in 24 hours. Why? Because Michigan. But that was last week. This week, we went from +48 to +16 in about 6 hours just because we can.
You win!
True, but my grandmother was pure laine (plus Métis and M’ikmaq, of course). I’m sure her ghost would haunt me if I moved anywhere other than eastern Canada!
In Nova Scotia, that’s what falls between your first and second shovelling of the morning.
Nah, that’s what falls WHILE you’re shoveling, because you know if you don’t stay on top of it you’ll end up with a layer of unbreakable crusty ice, a heart attack, or both.
Tomorrow is going to be fun!
(That’s 15 inches, for those of you playing along in Myanmar/Burma or Liberia).
The volume keeps going up, too. It was only 5-10cm when they first announced it. 5cm is my upper limit before I decide there will be too many idiots being dangerous on the roads.
As long as we’re being condescending, let’s at least be accurate.
40 cm = 15.748031496062992125984251968504 inches.
If you want accurate, you need to represent the fact that it’s a repeating decimal.
40 cm = 15.̅7̅4̅8̅0̅3̅1̅4̅9̅6̅0̅6̅2̅9̅9̅2̅1̅2̅5̅9̅8̅4̅2̅5̅1̅9̅6̅8̅5̅0̅3̅9̅3̅7̅0̅0̅7̅8̅7̅4̅0̅1̅5̅ inches.
Punxsutawney Phil can kiss my ass.
Or better yet, clear my driveway
Good idea. But the bar vinculum shouldn’t include the decimal. Thought I’d point that out.
The Unicode character is offset from the character it appears over; I had the choice of having it appear over only half of the 7 or over the decimal point; I chose the latter.
Ah, that explains it. I withdraw my objection pedantry assholiness.
