How's the Weather?

:smiley::smile::laughing::joy::cold_face:

ETA why not just go with Lumi? A name for a girl that means snow. Maybe Lumi Pakkanen (Snow Frost) a name Finn might have.

Oh and lunta is partitive case of lumi.

Actually Heikki Lumenluoja would make more sense. Lumenluoja means either creator of snow or person who removes snow.

Maybe Lumi Pakkanen is Heikki Lunta’s niece or something! It’s a nice name, for sure. I can’t say why the originator of Heikki Lunta picked what he did, but I can say that the Upper Peninsula has a whole lot of people with Finnish ancestry who only know a handful of Finnish words.

His last name Riutta [Reef] is a Finnish last name.

Oh cool, I’ve met some Riuttas, and knew that they were Finnish, but I didn’t know what the name meant. There’s really a lot of American Finns up here (my ancestry is half Swedish and three quarters Finnish). Hancock, the former site of Suomi College/Finlandia University (before it closed), even has street signs in both English and Finnish.

:sweat_smile: The Swedish half of my family is half Finnish but doesn’t want to talk about it.

“Wintry mix”

Either sleet and rain, or freezing rain, I’m not sure which. It slides down and piles up on the skylight in interesting ways.

I always thought “wintry mix” sounds like it should be some kind of peppermint-flavored variation on muddy buddies / puppy chow, instead of really unpleasant weather.

Ooh, yes! Peppermint and chocolate-covered cereal-based snack, yes please.

(I had to look up muddy buddies / puppy chow. I had heard of Chex snack mix for parties, which is salty/savory AFAIK, but never knew of a sweet version. TIL! It stands to reason that people would make a sweet version, I just never heard of it.)

Anyone else remember the time when a really big storm involved 2-3 states?

N of Toronto alla way down to Texas.

That was wild. I’ve never seen a storm like that. I’m used to heavy rain, wind and occasional lightning strikes, but this had constant, diffuse, strobe-light-like flashing in addition. It was like an over the top stage play storm effect out my window.

At our house last night’s storm was mostly unremarkable, no tornado warnings, no prolonged heavy rain or wind etc.

But we had a VERY close lightning strike. My computer speakers made a popping noise and stopped working. I guess I’m lucky it wasn’t the computer itself, or audio interface or synths or something else pricey. (I use my computer for music production, but always wear headphones for that, the speakers are just for games and videos really.)

We got rained on pretty hard at times; lotsa lightning and LOUD thunder. Wind gusts were nowhere near what was expected for our area - our yards aren’t fulla branches.
