We had dense fog all day. Now heavy rain. At midnight the wind will change direction.
following up on the fire between us and the mainland, Monroe County emergency management has posted this:
"Monroe County Emergency Management, along with its partners throughout the Florida Keys and south Miami-Dade, have been monitoring the resource needs due to the fire affecting Card Sound Road and the 18-Mile Stretch (U.S. 1). The lead agencies for this incident are Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service. It is being referred to officially as the 344 Fire.
At this time, Card Sound Road remains closed, and while the 18-Mile Stretch is open, there will continue to be the need for possible closures to make the necessary firefighting missions successful. "
intermittent closures of US1 eighteen mile stretch, plus total closure of Card Sound Road, effectively shuts down traffic in and out of the entirety of the Keys. the roads were closed, starting Tuesday afternoon and remain “iffy” for travel today (Friday) and the fire is only 20% contained.
here is the view of Card Sound Road:
and here is the US1:
dry winds out of the north not helping, and it is smokey and smelly here in KL.
ETA: Weather Underground is still predicting mostly rain and some ice. Temps are right on the cusp. We’ll see.
That’s wild, there’s just one little state* between us, but nearly a 40 degree difference in high temp on Friday.
* Sorry, Wisconsin!
High temperature on Friday: 58
High temperature on Sunday: 62
High temperature today: 80!
And boy does it feel like it.
I hope you and your family can stay safe
Stay safe! No whammies!
Yikes! Hope you guys didn’t get a tornado!
We just had super high winds but it doesn’t appear to have generated a tornado. We took shelter in a parking structure until it blew over.
Oh good! Glad to hear it.
Good to hear you and yours are okay!
So I think my mistake was thinking that I could just do a partial shoveling for the final shoveling of the year, and that angered Heikki Lunta (sorry, @Heikki!). I took care of the walks and the whole driveway this time, so I can say that now I’m done shoveling snow for this winter.
Heavy rains have started. They will continue through the night.
We’re certainly having an actual Spring in SE Lower Michigan this year, steada one of those “Blink-and-U-miss-it,” ones. It’s been rainy and cold, rainy and warmish, cold and warmish w/o rain, gloomy, sunny, some snow, some big storms, some heavy winds. We’re occ’ly above avg temps-wise, occ’ly lower.
