Sometimes I think that I can only endure these last few summers by living inside the fridge. Since 2023 We have been experiencing increasingly higher temperatures in the summer months.

If that trend continues, cities in certain places might not be livable… :sob:

Another problem besides cities turning into real ovens is the constant failure of agricultural crops. One example we are experiencing here in Brazil is coffee. In recent years, coffee production in Vietnam and in the producing regions of Brazil has fallen by more than 30 percent. As a result, the price of the drink has skyrocketed. Another product that has become a luxury item on our tables is olive oil. Droughts in Spain have caused the product to disappear from supermarket shelves and its price to rise to ridiculous levels.

ETA

Now this heat wave has affected the production of vegetables and eggs. The plants cannot withstand the heat and the high temperatures have reduced the production of the country’s farms.

Yeah, the impacts of climate change are totally globalized… I know it’s been building for a while, but I feel like this is all breaking down suddenly and really quickly.

And as things fell apart
Nobody paid much attention

Yeah, it’s very true, none of us up here in the global north did, until people from the global south began to flee the impacts of a crisis not of their own making, and then we paid attention to the wrong thing… we just denied the root cause of the problem, and instead denied that our fellow humans deserved our compassion… it’s like we want all the benefits of a globalized society, but none of the responsibilities… we expect places like Africa and South America to give up resources, without much compensation for the actual cost, but when the real bill comes due (changing our lifestyles, helping those who suffered for our luxury, etc), we refuse to pay it, and instead turn to strongmen to hurt the victims…

Also, YAY, Talking heads!

been in the shop all day, not paying attention to news.
it has been raining here all day, but no significant deluge (yet?). KW is 100 miles south of here, and only parts of this key flood like that. fortunately, i am not in one of those low spots.
i need to check in with some folks down there and see how they are.

thank you for the concern. we coo’.

The combination of shallow moisture and upslope flow will result in freezing drizzle.

Nope, typing it didn’t help my understanding.

Hmm, we had a little hail this morning and then a batch again this afternoon (middle of the UK).
Is that the same as freezing drizzle?

I think of hail as completely frozen ice pellets. Freezing drizzle is more like air slush.

I don’t understand the shallow moisture and upslope flow part. Like, is the humidity from melting snow blowing uphilll, then coming back down as freezing precipitation? If so, that must be a mighty wind.

I use this little gadget every evening when walking the dog.
The first time I used it there was a faint mist in the air. When I flipped the headlight on, I stopped mid-stride, entranced. (It was hyperspace - ala Millennium Falcon)
Honestly, light rain, sleet, snow, mist - you’ll appreciate them so much more with one of these shining out from your noggin. Trippy, man!

I am honestly not sponsored by the manufacturer.

I bought one for the cottage (Biolite); I have no electricity up there, and it was a game changer. It really improved my quality of life after dark. And it gets dark up there.

I use one, too! Slightly misty nights look so, so cool illuminated by LED.

Sounds like you lucked out and you haven’t met my ex. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
