An important point; the Census has been used to make false and dangerous claims before:

I’m obviously catching up on some blogs tonight!

Any talk of the “original intent” or “original meaning” of the Constitution that doesn’t acknowledge the revolutionary transformation of the Reformation Amendments is ignorant, misleading, and false.

Could Abramoff simply have been unaware of the requirement? Unlikely, the government suggested, alleging that “ABRAMOFF was aware of the obligations to register as a lobbyist in part because Congress amended provisions of the Lobbying Disclosure Act in 2007 in part as a reaction to ABRAMOFF’s past conduct as a lobbyist.”

Drain the swamp! Drain the sw… oh, nevermind.

Possible good news, in that it appears it might pass this time…not coincidentally, the term ‘racism’ is very pointedly omitted in describing what they’re trying to fix. Apparently that was the tweak that might work.

Maybe now the legislative branch will actually legislate, and quit leaving it all up to the courts. Roe v Wade wouldn’t be the linchpin of abortion rights if abortion access was enshrined in law at the federal level. The ACA also, it has problems, but if legislators would do their fucking jobs it could be better. It could, if there is enough moral backbone, become a truly equitable way to deal with medical care on a national scale.

This! But of course, it would be challenged in the courts, if such a law was passed. You’d have to make sure it would pass constitutional muster.
