Thank you.
I hope they have bullet-proof vests.
Marginally less unjust:
Fred Clark at Slacktivist using his faith to cut through the hypocrisy yet again:
106 bills to restrict voting access in less than a month:
If you’re Black, you go to pre-trial detention if an eyewitness thinks they maybe might have seen someone who looks something like you somewhere near the scene of the crime. If you’re white:
She got it???
Unbelievable.
Corrections and clarifications: A federal magistrate has not yet granted permission for Jenny Cudd to leave the country, as indicated in a previous version of this story.
I do like this, though:
In an interview with Texas ABC affiliate NewsWest 9, she denied any wrongdoing, saying, "I went inside the Capitol completely legally
Pretty sure that if she entered the Capitol, it wasn’t legal, and she’s admitting a crime to the national media.
Oh good. Hope it stays that way.
“So what they’re trying to do is cancel me because I stood up for what I believe in, and I can tell you this it’s – and it’s what I’ve told everybody – I would do it again in a heartbeat,” Cudd said.
Isn’t one of the requirements for being allowed to remain free while awaiting trial some sort of contrition and assurance that they WOULDN’T commit the same crime again?
contrition? no.
safety of the community, safety of the witnesses, and likelihood of showing up to trial are all relevant factors in a detention hearing.
OK, I’ll concede that point, but if you’re openly saying “I’ll commit the same crime again”, isn’t that a red flag with regard to being out of jail while awaiting trial?
Bail may be granted with certain conditions:
For instance, the Portland protesters had to agree not to attend protests. Pro publica argues that this is a violation of the freedom of assembly

but narrow tailoring is possible-- give up your guns, check in regularly, don’t contact your confederates or witnesses, stay out of DC, and stay away from officeholders.
Maybe granting bond to a multiple murder suspect who has shown to be extremely friendly with white terrorism groups and political figures who think accountability is something that should only happen to specific races or political groups, is not such a great idea.
Well, Jenny Cudd has pending felony charges now, which may make the Mexico trip even less likely.
It mentions Adrian Vermule, who produced something of a furor last Spring.
I think Fred has really encapsulated how the general perception that ‘oh no, people are leaving Christianity’ is framing the issue entirely wrong: white people are leaving white Christianity, because it is 100% white and thus not really Christian. They might go on to consider themselves agnostics or atheists or spiritual depending on whether and how much religious belief is important to them, but it’s all fruit of the same tree.
