We don’t hear enough about Haiti. It’s pretty much a failed state run by gangs at this point.
Haiti was failed, though, over and over again…first via the debt imposed by the French, then by over a century of US interventionism. Given that, it’s not a huge surprised that it’s reached this new low, especially after the earthquake. The western world owes Haiti for what they’ve done to the place.
In 2016, the “Revolutions” podcast did a great section on the Haitian Revolution, and capped it off with a segment on the history of Haiti from the revolution until then.
I found it very moving.
