Such bad news. If it weren’t such a serious issue, I would applaud anything that could break the hold of the LDS on so many people in Utah and elsewhere.

this is the first i’ve heard of this, and Nevada has a not-insignificant amount of Mormons. i wonder if this will start to get more traction here as other (bigger) stories fade this week.

The district’s Covid-19 tracker says as of Monday evening, 804 students and 437 employees have tested positive for coronavirus since August 2. A total of 467 new cases were reported Monday alone.

On August 7, district officials announced they would require face coverings for the start of the year. However, parents were able to opt their children out of the requirement, according to a statement issued by Superintendent of Schools Addison Davis.

As of last Thursday, Hillsborough County Public Schools had received 27,915 opt-out submissions, according to school district spokesperson Tanya Arja.

isolated in the Governor’s Mansion while receiving monoclonal antibody treatment, which can help Covid-19 patients who are at risk of getting very sick.

Must be nice to hide away in your mansion and get high-end medical care while the everyone else suffers the consequences of your actions.

It seems like these should immediately be placed in school classrooms, workplaces, etc. as well as hospitals.

Too bad Ron Popeil isn’t alive still; he’d’ve figured out a way to make them portable for one’s car, home, or trailer.

(addendum: maybe we oughta invest in batteries and charging accessories?)

There’s an article here about Typhoid Mary, whose legacy is still being carried on.

She was Irish in the nineteen-oh-whatsits, so yes, she was unfairly demonized, but she was also a murderous asshole.

  1. This is contrary to current global practice and WHO advice.
  2. This will further exacerbate the current situation of a vaccine shortage in the Global South and massive hoarded stockpiles in the USA.
  3. This is designed to create the illusion of action within the USA without actually doing anything to address the current crisis.

So supply the hospitals first and then turbocharge the factories. These are small consumer units they’re talking about, not high-end medical gear.

They need HEPA filters, but nothing super-fancy; they should not be hard to produce en masse.
