The guy should watch an episode of Scrubs where a guy waiting for an organ transplant (and is about to get it) gets bumped from the list because he was drinking alcohol at a wedding when he shouldn’t have. It’s very poignant, and the hospital and doctor’s have a responsibility to the people who are donating their organs and that it goes to those that need it, and that will take care of themselves the best.
This guy is entitled and doesn’t deserve to get a heart. Get the damn vaccine you baby.
From April last year, but worth re-visiting considering…everything…
COVID-19 patients also demonstrate behavioral and executive dysfunction. The latter term means patients have difficulty in critical thinking, such as compromising and reaching a consensus, and difficulties in controlling antisocial behavior and determining when to become aggressive.
Five years after the pandemic, COVID continues to disproportionately impact women, and that’s likely to worsen under the Trump administration. According to The Sick Times, Trump has commanded the Department of Health and Human Services to terminate the advisory committee on long COVID. The publication reports there’s a lack of provider literacy happening, too, when training programs are much needed. Historically, medical research has left out women, and long COVID patients as well as medical experts are worried about what this means down the line.
Because it seems to hit young adult women especially hard.
The good news, as it were, is that there is now more than one POTS specialist in the country (before, it was someone at Johns Hopkins, with a wait list that was several YEARS long).
That’s been true of all the chronic postviral syndromes. These are getting a second look now that long covid has proven that this is a real thing, but the fact that the victims are predominately women has lead to them being disregarded for far too long. This is truly unforgivable.
I can’t. Trying to explain to people why this measles outbreak worries me brings back too many PTSD-ish memories. I did pester them enough to make nasal swab testing available for us, at least. That was a major battle back in 2020.
THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford University have developed a dual-antibody treatment that remains effective against ALL SARS-CoV-2 variants by targeting a less-mutable part of the virus. This breakthrough could lead to longer-lasting therapies that OUTPACE viral evolution.
Viruses like the one that causes COVID-19 constantly mutate, rendering many antibody treatments ineffective. A Stanford-led research team has found a way to counter this challenge by pairing two antibodies- one that acts as an anchor by attaching to a stable part of the virus, and another that
blocks its ability to infect cells. This innovative approach has successfully neutralized ALL tested SARS-CoV-2 variants and could pave the way for longer-lasting treatments. If further developed, it may even work against other coronaviruses, influenza, AND HIV.
It’s peer-reviewed, though there’s more work to be done before we know it’s useful and safe in humans… but it’s a tiny bit of hope, maybe?
