Problematic language, but worth reading:
of course they are going to deny it. They want to appear to still be “human”.
Its cannonicity is not in question at all!
It is, unquestionably, not a cannon, nor any other sort of black powder weapon!
Because human decency is illegal.
“Prevention through deterrence,” a.k.a. “We’d prefer you die, rather than making it safely into the country.”
“Pro-life” indeed.
Should be shot down. It’s described as a “flashing light” and likely to fuck up people’s fucking brains, which are fucking important.
It’s supposed to “create a shared experience for everyone on the planet” but if it causes seizures and migraines for some people, and not for others-- that isn’t shared experience.
On the one hand, it shouldn’t be much worse for eyeballs and astronomers than the ISS, just a bit brighter and faster-moving. Its orbit should be easily predictable.
On the other hand, it just seems like a pointless vanity project. With all of the junk cluttering our orbit, we should only be sending stuff into space when absolutely necessary. This does not seem to fall into that category.
Idaho is a red state so no surprise to me. I lived close enough to them to know.
In the US, it is (unless you have lots of money!)
That’s just… gah.
I’d ask “Are they actively trying to kill the people applying for disability benefits?” but I’m afraid that the answer might be an unironic “Yes.”
Something’s happened to my right foot and I can barely walk right now. I may be able to later today, but… I don’t know. I worry that further strain might worsen whatever’s going on.
I don’t know what. I’ve had on-and-off trouble since September 2013, but it’s much worse now/ January 2018.
Due to an ongoing emergency, I don’t have my cane. I can’t receive packages.
My doctor suspects gout, because the pain is worst around the 1st metatarsaphalangual joint. She wants me to relax and try yoga.
I have none of the risk factors for gout. I can’t get to the clinic for blood tests during attacks, but I have low-normal e.s.r. between attacks, so I doubt it’s gout. I have photosensitivity and painhammersensitivity a.k.a. hyperacusis, and I think uric acid protects against these, so again I doubt it’s gout.
I suspect turf toe, but can’t be sure.
Any idea what’s going on and what I can do about it? It hurts.
I have weak feet and ankles. If I go for long periods without taking walks I sometimes get something similar. The doc said gout too, and it’s possible there was a general inflammatory response. When it gets better, I start walking again.
I moved to a place where I walk all the time and haven’t had trouble since. YMMV
But I had been walking. Not as much as before, due to a cold, and the move, and everything else, but farther than most people. And I had been walking miles at a time when this started in 2013 and I couldn’t walk any more.
Footwear maybe. I’m sorry you’re going through this.
It might be podiatrist time, or massage.
Got new shoes last fall. They haven’t helped. Can’t get metal plates for turf toe locally, and can’t get deliveries until I’m back home.
Letter to the Nation
To whom it might concern–
I am angry about the use of the m-word in Eric Alterman’s column from Jan. 29th. It is a common ableist insult. It was a classification in forced sterilization campaigns, and I believe Carrie Buck was initially classified as one. I think the use of the m-word, and other ableist insults, adds insult to the inaccessibility, discrimination, reckless endangerment, and often resulting injury we may face for varying disabilities.
Is it so much to suggest that if you are not a target of a slur, it is not appropriate to use that slur?

… Yes, it’s another adaptation of my standard rant.
