Molesters Being Outed

Everything you wanted to know. Apparently, entering a room nude and asking for a massage was his go-to movie.

Of course when they say “mainstream,” they still mean “mainstream for Utah Mormons,” so it’s still anothher world from the rest of us.

And I suppose this should go here too, as a matter of record.

Noticed this a while back looking to see if (per my then understanding) Dr. Jeff (so called “America’s Psychologist”) did indeed attend my high school… and he did, yet he’s not shown on wiki as being listed among “notable alumni” on their BTHS page.

Anyway, imagine being forever tagged as shown below. All those, scientists, sports figures, music composers, authors, and entertainers… and you’re the only one among the honorable notables who…:

What’s next for the man who first quit congress and then withdrew from consideration for an appointment in the Trump administration because of all the horrible revelations about him being a sexual predator who trafficked in underage girls?

Recording creepy personalized videos to send to internet strangers, of course!

I’ve never been Mormon. So take this with an appropriate grain od salt. But the Utah Mormon church has written children’s lessons about polygamy.

Just started watching:

Archive link to their lesson:

It’s attracted fact checks and expansions, of course:

It would be one thing if they acknowledged that Mormon polygamy harmed women and girls, and sometimes harmed men and boys. But they don’t acknowledge that. They emphasize the importance of obedience. And the combination of power distance, a culture of obedience, and a culture where sacred rituals are often secret ones, might enable abusers.

Never been LDS either, but the question that I always had was, if one man can have many wives, what do you do with the surplus men? The vast majority will be straight, I assume that gay relationships are not exactly encouraged. But I guess that this would come under “obedience” as well. Or, and just hear me out, it’s all a huge power game, maybe? Marry all your “wives” at or before puberty, before they have any opinions of their own, and it’s not a problem?

As I understand it, they’re driven out of the community mostly. This is a problem with the various small, nasty, fundamentalist LDS offshoots that still practice polygamy (not officially, of course).

Yup: homelessness, drug addiction, all the usual difficulties that develop when you’re kicked out of your home as a teen.

It’s a good example that toxic masculinity is bad for men and boys, too.

I think in the period of secret polygamy, it wasn’t that common, and, although maddeningly patriarchal, it included polyandry as well as polygyny.

But in the period of open polygamy, it was much more common, and it only included polygyny. And it was on the frontier, with more men than women. So it meant men either married late, or often not at all, and women were forced to marry early, often as girls.

In the FLDS, the young men were more or less enslaved into the church’s construction businesses. They were also pushed off of the land and forced out of the church, so they were left without many resources and woefully little education, trying to make it on their own.

The older men all divided up the young women for themselves. Warren Jeffs passed out the young women as favors to his loyalists.

When I was 15 (summer of 1980), standing at the entrance to Balduck Park on Warren Ave. in Detroit, my bike resting against a guardrail and I was resting too. A guy came up in a car and wanted to take my picture. Long story short: He groomed me (he was 30ish) until I was legal. In fact, we kept up till I met my future-first-ex-husband when I broke it off. In fact, he told me that he took my picture because he liked my legs.

See, I didn’t know shit. I didn’t come from a rich white family but a middle-class one, and he wasn’t a teacher (though my h.s. teacher, many of whom taught my 7 yr older brother, fooled around with girl students even when my bro was there and prolly before!!!). Girls wanted older men to want them because if that happens, then we are women and worthy. Just like the fucking patriarchy wants us to think.

A recipe for ready-for-failure, otherwise ill-advised, marriages made to keep from getting driven out.
