Agreed. I was an Olivia Chow supporter, and very wary of Tory and his background, but I can happily say that I have been pleasantly surprised by a lot of his decisions, especially on community outreach, which is why I’m optimistic about this call for investigation.
The new $10 note has been unveiled:
A bold choice, rotating it 90° from most other currencies.
Let me see if I understand you.
Vertical. Note. Excuse me?
That’s wrong. Like eating the pizza crust first!
Next you’ll start putting women on your money or something.
Remember we’ve had a queen as a reigning monarch for over 50 years (and Queen Victoria prior to that). We’ve been putting one woman on our money for a while now.
Shocking.
What next? A gender-neutral national anthem?
Speaking of the Brothers Ford:
It looks like Doug won the leadership race (as the results were weighted by riding), although Christine Elliott got more votes.
At this point, I honestly can’t tell if the Tories are trying to get Wynne reelected.
The comments in that thread are comedy gold.
The Mounties got their man, the dog is safe and sound, Nature (ie: Canada’s answer to Fate) helped catch the bad guy by stopping the snowmobile… but 29 OUTSTANDING WARRANTS??? Sheesh.
I literally can’t think of a more Canadian crime than this… perhaps the maple syrup heist… but thats about it…
Stealing PC Points, stealing maple syrup, and stealing Canadian Tire money for the hat trick.
Years ago I got to be in a meeting with the CEO and Owner of CanTire where they talked about having the oldest customer reward program in Canada, the USA and maybe the world… but also it was impossible to track. They had no customer data, at all. This was 10 years ago… its taken them that long to create and roll out their Canadian Tire Money cards… and phase out the bills. But they’ll always take the bills. LOL
(Also, some of them are collectible! You can find them on eBay for like $10 and up! Hilarious!)
THE DOG IS OK!! Phew!!!
Makes sense – they started that programme back when doing the kind of fine-grained tracking done today would have been a total PITA and would have burned through all the goodwill generated and then some.
Instead it helped make the company a cultural icon, which so far the foreign owners have been smart enough to keep their mitts off of (shakes fist at Tim Hortons and where the Zellers used to be; briefly thinks of Canadian Boots, WH Smith, and Marks & Spencers).
The only thing about the electronic money is that it’s not transferable the way the paper money was. Used to be a housewarming gift from the family for when people moved out of their parents’ for the first time.
ETA: the paper money also fostered a “saving” mentality in the culture, which we seem to be losing. It spread to other things – think of people who save all their beer empties until the weekend they’re short on cash, and then haul them all back to The Beer Store so they can afford the 2-4s for the weekend. Although that’s a provincial, rather than national thing. I’m sure there’s equivalents across the country.
I had to check… but Martha Billes, the founders daughter is still the controlling stock holder of CTC. https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/canadian-tire-corporations-martha-billes-honoured-for-commitment-to-sport-and-physical-activity-566187731.html
Its still a proudly Canadian Company!
And Martha is a personal hero to me! Her brothers were groomed to take over the company, she was expected to marry and have kids. But when her brothers leadership threatened to kill the company she stepped in and took over, eventually buying her brothers out in a hostile takeover. Its under her leadership CTC became what it is is today! (I’ve met her twice, she’s amazing!) She also had created the ONLY shipping containers that ship full from China that can be transported directly onto our trains/trucks. Every other one needs to be unloaded and then reloaded because China uses metric and we still use imperial. She’s amazing and I love her and CTC is still Canadian!!
You can tell a lot about a Canadian from this simple poll.

That’s so great! I hope she has strong succession planning too.
Funny about the scenario with the brothers… I happen to know someone who had a similar career track (not going to say who 'cos she doesn’t like talking about it for various reasons).
Fixed
Okay, I have read/watched too many British mysteries, because my first thought was Police Constable.
