Our Felonious Ex-President

IMHO it would depend on how the gun nuts responded.

It could get bad. Very bad.

Honestly at this point I fully expect at least some violence from the reactionaries even in the best case where Trump is removed completely by the book.

I wouldn’t even rule out a President in exile, perhaps he has connections to some foreign power that might be willing to host him.

It would get bad regardless. very bad.

Yeah, but this is the USA.

Instead of an overt coup, they’ll just have him assassinated and blame it on whichever country is the intended victim of their next war.

Old socialist joke:

Q: Why has their never been a military coup in the United States?

A: Because there’s no US embassy there.

And there’s more. Apparently an ex-Cambridge Analytica higher-up now has a major user experience role at Facebook, and then there’s all these contradictory statements on whether or not they destroyed the data when say they did:

Of course, “destroy the data” is kind of a red herring, because they shouldn’t have had or in the first place and could easily have completed an analysis of it before the destroy directive came through.

What is life without alcohol and dogs?

The going theory on Twitter is that dogs aren’t fooled by Pence’s human suit.

Well, I wouldn’t want dogs around either.

Hey, that’s a uncalled-for insult… to nerds.

The problem with that is, Pence scares me more than Trump does. Trump’s just random, Pence would be focused on entrenching a conservative theocracy. And he’s much more skilled at that governing shit than Trumpy.

The only thing more frightening than Trump is a more effective fascist, and I feel like Pence be exactly that.

It’s not an easy question. Are you more worried about random wars or calculated wars? The victims of expanding new fascism or reinforced old fascism? What a strongman would do with the law or would do without it?

For myself, maybe speaking from ignorance, but I’m not sure the difference in skill is so important. Trump is clumsy and random. But massive tax cuts and deregulation for the wealthy, attacks on health and education, supreme court picks against things like women’s rights, more voter suppression, increased deportations, military actions with even less concern for civilians, even bringing more guns into schools – it’s all still there. The incompetent reality show in the White House is trashing normal functions of government, but the reactionary agenda seems to be working as well as ever. Now with extra Nazis and nepotistic embargoes.

I would hope the process of removing Trump might at least provide some delay, if not ensure there are at least still a few legal limits on a president or leave Pence in a bad position. Except then there would be drying opposition, since Pence is somehow thought respectable. Except then maybe without the firehose of blundering people might not keep losing track of what he’s doing. Again, it’s not an easy question.

I am so, so sorry it is one people have to ask.

If the evidence shows that Pence was involved, then he can be indicted. I don’t think there are department rules protecting him like the ones protecting Trump.

And, of course, there’s Cambridge Analytica:

I think people might generally be assuming too much about Pence’s competence. Has he actually done anything in the current administration? I mean, working with/under 45 would cripple anybody, but I suspect if he’s the evil genius people say he is, I would think we’d see him pushing his agenda or working to undermine 45 and take over.

Pence would likely be a terrible president, but seems unlikely to start a nuclear war out of sheer idiocy. And I think if he takes over because Trump got taken down, he’ll be in a pretty weak position.

It’s not inconceivable that he’ll fall along with the rest of them though; what are the chances he’s innocent in all this?

I lived in Austin for six years. This month, there have been six bombs sent to black families. We don’t have leadership to protect these people. What the fuck are we doing if we can’t even stop domestic terrorists from blowing up children inside the country?

Six? How come they’re only talking about five in the news??

I don’t know. It’s possible that there’s no update on the package that they went to investigate at 8:30 in Austin proper (out by ABI).
