Reminds me of an atypical romance novel I read quite some time ago, set in Wisconsin? Anyway, someone would sculpt the head of the latest Butter Queen out of butter for the yearly butter festival, and someone stole the “butter head”, so the plot involved tracking down the butter head.

That could be it, at least the real life version that the novel satirised. I remember there being lots of references to “hot dish” as well.

Mom made a lot of hot dishes. I’ve seen, but never ate, lutefisk. Ate lefse at a friend’s house. Definitely a Minnewegian thing.
