True from the beginning of time, I think. I’ve read that the science fiction fan society in NYC during the 1940s split into two, one in favor of using SF for political purposes and the other wanting to focus on the literary side (such as it was at the time) only. The former became the Futurians, which included some of the most well-known authors.
