I wonder if they’re told about it? It would shock me not at all to learn that someone saying “Oh, yeah, you’re eligible to vote again now” just doesn’t happen.
Et tu, REI?
I couldn’t tell from the thumbnail, but as soon as the page loaded I knew exactly which warehouse that is. That damn ugly thing destroyed some lovely farmland near Kenosha. It honestly doesn’t surprise me at all how badly they treat temp workers there, not that they treat the permanent workers particularly great. They definitely have a reputation in the area and prey on desperate workers of all types.
Putting this here, because sacrificing workers seems to be a major goal for Elno and Felon47. Stacey Abrams interviews Liz Shuler, president of the AFL-CIO, and both provide some great ideas for fighting back:
From now on, I plan to follow the example set earlier this month by Wired editor Leah Feiger and pronounce DOGE like “dodge.” Not only will that annoy the folks running and supporting it, but that also reflects what they are attempting to do - dodge taxes, dodge regulations, and dodge responsibility for their actions. I’ll also be checking out these options mentioned during the video:
And feel free to spell it DOdGE.
they are some dodgy characters.
Ok then! I think I’ll pronounce DOGE as “Dodgy” from now on.
Linking here, because some employers support sub-minimum wage and steal tips from workers:
How the economy and corporations benefit from prison labor (and why it’s still legal to offer workers little to no pay):
Interesting that the rest of the staff was left alone, because the manager could’ve gotten in big trouble with the owner that way, right?
I just had a conversation with someone whose boyfriend is a large equipment operator working in Pacific Palisades (post fire cleanup). The state promised the City of LA that they would loosen up “red tape”, which means that they temporarily suspended labor laws with respect to this operation and with the union’s blessing. He’s working 12-hour days, 7 days a week, until they get all the debris cleared away.
He’s getting OT pay (and it’s a LOT of money), but the only days off that he’s had since clean up began was two days for a stomach flu that my friend’s daughters passed on to him. However, my friend is worried about her BF’s health and safety, and the safety of the other tired workers. She said her BF told her that a tree removal guy already shattered his leg because he wasn’t paying close attention.
Disney just announced that a new theme park is going to be built in Abu Dhabi. It won’t actually be built or owned by Disney, but instead it will be constructed and financed by the Miral Group, who will pay Disney to design it, along with licensing fees. (That’s similar to how the Disney parks in Japan are not actually owned by Disney)
So… Abu Dhabi. Not exactly known for human rights or awesome treatment of their migrant workforce. Reminds me of this reference to Duff Gardens in an old Simpsons episode.
No surprise. Disney has long been trash.
I never had any doubt at all. I know for a fact that the CEO’s screaming loudest for stricter immigration laws are the same ones employing many undocumented workers. (e.g., ULINE.)
