So who do we elect this year?

I wonder how the new states will affect the balance in the senate.

Yeah, how about a New Massachusetts and a New Maryland?

New Nevada is Nevada minus Clarke county.

Obv, it’s less trivial to calculate the population of new California, but a new state the size of North Dakota will tend to reinforce the present bias in in the Senate.

Oh, thank goodness.

Of course, Texas republicans promptly show they can push the bar even lower by calling for secession.

The State of Texas’s motion for leave to file a bill of
complaint is denied for lack of standing under Article III of
the Constitution. Texas has not demonstrated a judicially
cognizable interest in the manner in which another State
conducts its elections. All other pending motions are dismissed
as moot.
Statement of Justice Alito, with whom Justice Thomas joins: In my view, we do not have discretion to deny the filing of a bill of complaint in a case that falls within our original jurisdiction. See Arizona v. California, 589 U. S. ___
(Feb. 24, 2020) (Thomas, J., dissenting). I would therefore grant the motion to file the bill of complaint but would not grant other relief, and I express no view on any other issue.

All they needed were more Scalitos. This fight isn’t over and won’t be for … well … as long as white collar and dictator and cartel criminals all have this mutual alliance of impunity. It’s all of them. We have to put them all in check.

Even the two justices that dissented, only quibbled over whether they’d grant leave for the filing. Even then, they said they would have tossed it for different reasons. Either way, it still ended up being a “no”.

Of course, certain corners are saying this is still all part of the plan.

I don’t doubt the delusional nature of the GOP minions stuck with their choices. I doubt that they will give up. They will ally with dark capital because dark capital is really well capitalized and all these clouds of criminals gravitate toward money.

If MS-13 is actually a thing, they will be all in on this fight, buddy-buddy with Stephen Miller. Remember that Pinochet is not considered to have been European only in Murica. Everything about him screamed Conquistador.

Let Mexico have it back fercrissakes. That means the wall will be shorter, won’t it?

Hey, when Napoleon and Russia needed respective funds, they sold the Louisiana Territory and Alaska to the US, respectively. (is that too many respectivelys?)

Respecting the respective respectivelys, I can respect their respectability, respectfully.

Fingers crossed.

And don’t try to tell me Texas shouldn’t secede because Austin’s cool. I’ve heard that stuff before. Why, an influx of Austin refugees to San Francisco could help make it cool again.

What about El Paso though? Houston? I’m not fine with writing off Floridians to Mecha-God-Bugs, why would I care less for Texans? Rich Texan grifters no more than rich Florida grifters, for sure, but…

From my times in Texas (ages 4-12, then again a year in my 30s on a work assignment), it’s actually a nice place. Houston is the most diverse city in the U.S., more even than New York. And the demographic is getting younger and more diverse. There are a lot of crazies, but a lot of good people too, it’s a big state.

Unfortunately, they keep electing idiots and assholes to represent them. And they’re the only ones we hear from when we’re not in Texas. They make the whole state look bad.

Meanwhile voter registration is 42R-39D - only 3% away from a flip, and with 19% unaligned. I don’t want Texas gone, I want to see a push in the right direction flip it. Just a nudge would be enough. It’s really close, and there was a big push for Bernie Sanders there - he lost the primary by less than 5% (while more than 25% went to Bloomberg and Warren). I want to see Texas get good government for a change. And that’s something that could actually happen. It’s very close.

The more recent exploits of the previously-mentioned Mr. “Spyder”/“Spider”:

So, he never even completed the training course run by the unit his statement claimed he was an “electronic intelligence analyst” at, and claims he didn’t even fully read the first few lines of his own statement before signing it. But Trump and his supporters want us to believe he’s a “military intelligence expert” with proof that voting systems were “certainly compromised by rogue actors, such as Iran and China”.

Whoopsie.

I guess the judge wasn’t as much of a sports fan as Trump’s lawyer.

“A sitting president who did not prevail in his bid for reelection has asked for federal court help in setting aside the popular vote based on disputed issues of election administration, issues he plainly could have raised before the vote occurred. This Court has allowed plaintiff the chance to make his case and he has lost on the merits.

“In his reply brief, plaintiff ‘asks that the Rule of Law be followed,’” Ludwig observed.

“It has been,” he concluded.

(emphasis added… this was another one that went the extra mile and didn’t just dismiss based on standing, laches, and all the other reasons these cases have been tossed)

[edit] Also, a small note on my “No way to tell which way the judge was leaning.” - he definitely seemed skeptical of the request from Trump’s side. However, the judge also seemed extremely skeptical of the idea that he shouldn’t have jurisdiction over the case, to the point of coming up with what seemed to me a pretty wild hypothetical to argue it. In the end, he clearly decided that he had jurisdiction… but at least he still ended up ruling against Trump.

Considering this whole situation is unappealing, I’m not surprised.

(the pic is of the victim, no pic of the perpetrator has been released)

And we’ve got senseless violence in broad daylight now. Without any extra information, I’m gonna guess the attacker was way down Trump’s conspiracy theory rabbit hole.

I bet if the reverse had happened (dem punching a Trump supporter), the guy would be in jail charged with assault, battery, and a few other things. Even worse if the puncher was a POC.
