At some point people of Earth will see it as a weapons proliferation problem and yes, satellite intermediaries will be needed most of the time. Latency is standard space scale difficulty. But yeah, colonizing Mars is dumb. The chemistry of non-Earth-biosphere places does that.

I donβt think they were claiming thereβs a theoretical limit. I think they were claiming itβs stupid to imagine transmitting amounts of data we canβt even get on earth without cables, and then not factor in how the speed of light would limit things further.
