SLS (an overpriced, poorly planned boondoggle even compared to the Space Shuttle) might be on the chopping block. Killing the program may well be the only responsible way to go, but if they’d made this call back in 2011 we might well have a workable replacement by now.

I hate living in a timeline where Boeing and SpaceX are basically our only two viable options for the forseeable future of American spaceflight.

If this works - and it seems it does - it’s a good and useful thing.
Which is how β€œAI” (such as it is) should be implemented: as a tool for a specific, clearly defined use case, based on clean data.
