For those making plans to exfiltrate themselves from autocracy- don’t forget to get an international driver’s permit. You may need it.

If it’s not the law* that they have to use them, perhaps the good ol’ putting stickers on or writing in the dates on a calendar could be a solution.

I was dating a guy named Vinnie and he bought me this back in the early Oughts. I still have it in a box in my garage - somewhere, lol.

Analog ftw

I’m not one to hop into every tech breakthrough and I rely on folks I know who know more than myself for guidance. I kinda resent the trope of older person not knowing how to use a remote, y’know? I’m better at analog since I learned it as a child but I don’t think of myself as some clumsy old who thinks VOD means Value On Donuts.

You’ve got to use the right tool for the job; sometimes it’s analog, sometimes it’s technology based.

As an older person myself (possibly the oldest person here), I’m shocked to hear from people like educators that students at all levels are incapable of using the technology available to them; they don’t know how to use email, set up files, or even research online, not even google or wikipedia! They’ll plug something into Chat GPT and call it a day, and present that as an essay, even at the university level.

Stocking up a year or two of my multivitamin & calcium chews.

If there’s food disruptions and poor nutrition; these are even more important.

Bonus: Bulk buying is cheaper and I’m going to use them anyway.

Rather like an “internal brain drain.”

Weirdly when a English speaker says Hari Kondabolu what I hear is about what I would imagine a Harri Kuntapolku [municipality path] would sound like in English.

I’m at the awkward position where I need to either go to my doctor, which is a full day trip because he’s a state away (and I don’t drive), or find a new one in order to get my prescriptions refilled.

I love my old doc. He’s very much a tell-it-to-you-straight guy. He is not a “just exercise and lose weight” guy. He knows my bad habits and accepts that I’m not going to break them easily.

It’s a conundrum, because it takes years to find a good doctor like that. One who actually listens to you, and tries to help, even if you aren’t living a perfect ideal life.

But having to dedicate an entire day to an appointment and coordinate transport is so challenging. It was so nice when I could just walk down there on my lunch break.

I guess I owe it to him to at least go one last time and tell him that. Maybe he can give me a recommendation to someone local.

Excellent!

I always love finding a crossed wire inside human spoken language.

My first discovery as a child was learning “gift” (English) and “Gift” (German) were entirely different.

The world is still an interesting place.
Thank you for reminding me.

Maybe your current doc knows someone near you?

Most doctors I know do telehealth now. They’ll go through the MyChart or other medical software structure to maintain HIPAA. Any chance that’s an option with this doctor?
