Stepdaughter’s in the ER now. Been there about 8 and a half hours. Took 2 hours to get to triage, 6 hours in the waiting room until being taken back for testing (EKG etc.) and that was for chest pains and difficulty breathing.
When I went in with the same symptoms last year, they had somebody waiting at the door to take me straight back when I arrived. Gave me just enough time to sign a form before they started doing tests. Within a half hour I had a doc giving me a diagnosis and follow-up plan and discharging me.
We’re not even that hard-hit with Corona here, but the medics are so overloaded and have been for such a long time. That’s kind of scary.
Edit: She just got back home. Going to find out what the results were.
Edit 2: Their conclusion was an interaction of side-effects from prescribed medication. Multiple anti-anxiety meds (she just started a new one) that together can have weird effects on things like heart rate and blood pressure. (Which coincidentally can trigger an anxiety attack, making the situation worse - that causes actual physical effects in the heart and breathing.) She’s home now and trying to relax, and will have to go to regular doc to review prescriptions and doses.
(This can be moved to another thread if preferred, as it isn’t so bad.)
Yesterday I had to do some driving, so I flipped on the radio, and got one heck of a shock. One of the radio stations I’ve been listening to for, oh, thirty years or so just changed formats.
CIMX, 88.7 New Rock Alternative, is no more.
It’s gone country.
(Yup, I’m in Detroit, but we can get some Windsor stations here.)
It had a great blend of American and Canadian rock and alternative artists, subtly different from anything else on the dial. They used to have a Sunday morning show, “Time Warp,” with lots of 80s New Wave artists which was my go-to at work (though it ended a few years back.) I saw several shows from some of their favorite bands, back in my concert-going days. Their former morning show, Dave and Chuck the Freak, were notorious for their brand of raunchy silliness (though they eventually moved to a Detroit Rock station after repeatedly butting heads with management.)
I don’t listen to the radio as much as I used to, so it shouldn’t make the impact that it does. But it feels a little like an old friend’s left town, never to return.
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of country either (not knocking it, it’s just… not my tastes.) But even if I was, I doubt I’d be happy about this. 89X debuted when I was in high school, or maybe just starting college. It’s a long, good run, I guess, but it’s gone.
It looks interesting… though my poor car radio won’t pick up that signal. I haven’t really explored internet radio… maybe I should. There’s probably a lot more out there to my tastes than I can get locally.
Both are non-commercial public radio stations - ever notice the closest one will get to country music on public radio is bluegrass or very early American Western/Folk, lol?
We bought a treadmill over the internet. Came last weekend and never worked – kept getting E02. Just put it back in the box and put outside. Dick’s Sporting Goods supposedly will have FedEx pick it up tomorrow. It was a Sunny SF-T7610, very cheap but as our first treadmill I thought it better to go cheap and see if we like it, and if it crapped out after a year or two, then so be it (what with manufacturing in general being crap nowadays). It crapped out after a minute or two.
Fuck this form of capitalism where everything is made as cheaply as possible in China.
welp half the students who took my optional final cheated on it
I’ll have to file grade changes. I cannot underscore the degree to which they did not have to do this. I asked everyone who was taking the final to notify me by Monday so I could finalize the grades of anyone not taking it. None of them told me they would be taking it. I had already put their grades in the grading system. They literally turned in plagiarized work after grades were finalized. And got terrible scores on the plagiarized work. They cheated to turn in failing work and then get zero credit for cheating.
I have never in my whole life heard of people snatching defeat from the jaws of victory so completely.
You’ve never watched the Detroit Lions play football, have you?
Seriously, they sound like working for the Republican party is in their futures…
And I can well imagine your frustration, as when I was in community college I got frustrated with some of the students for lack of fucking giving a damn about actually learning something.
