I will be a little infrequent for a couple of weeks. As some of you know, I’m about to take a job as a bus driver with the San Diego MTS so I can rebuild my finances, but I’m trying to scrape some money together to go see my dad who is turning 89 on Halloween and is going through chemotherapy right now. I haven’t seen the man in person since 2008 and he’s expressing that he’s probably ready to let things go, so this may be my last opportunity to go see him.
I have about $300 so far, but this close to the 4th or 5th of November, I’m thinking I should be shooting for a minimum of $750 no matter if it’s by bus, plane, or train (my first choice so I can get the Amtrak USA Rail Pass and be able to work on my art while I travel). San Diego to Chicago, so I’m thinking a little over two days to get there.
And then there’s a little issue of infection from a cat scratch the other day… I am taking antibiotics.
When my Dad was serving with the UN in Cyprus (early 70s) we used to hang out with some Finn families so we had exposure to “Rally English”. We still use the pronunciation of vegetables
I know right? I was used to this being a quiet little place where I knew everyone, and the other was the big busy place with so much more going on than I could keep up with.
I’m not complaining, I’m glad to see people I like! But it’s taking me a minute to acclimate because it feels like someone crossed the streams.
So… I don’t know how to deal with the BBS cafe now. It used to be that I’d come by and read every single new highlighted thread to catch up. That’s not possible now and I BLAME YOU ALL. It’s fine. Maybe I’ll pull back from bluesky and miss its inevitable enshittification arc. Maybe I’ll retrain my brain to not need to SEE ALL THE THINGS. That’ll be good.
I did it, i updated my profile pic. I’ve had the panda icon for a wildly long time but been mulling over updating it, it is AI created though i did some minor editing and touch up. I feel weird about changing it but i do like it
In the seven years that I’ve been here (), I was maybe caught up on all of the threads during the first week, but never since. I get the impulse, but maybe this will ultimately be a good thing for you.
Yes, I got the same back around 2014 when my mom’s cat bit me while breaking up a fight. He had epilepsy, and when he would come to, there was always a massive dust up with the other two. My arm swelled up like a basketball.
