This reminds me of science fiction in the 40’s. It was published only in magazines, and serious fans could read every single story published. That hasn’t been true for a long time.
[cough] Dragon Magazine in the ‘80s [cough]
Everything I need to know about Finland I learned from the Hydraulic Press Channel.
a dashing new look, good man!
Mmmmm yes, quite dapper good old chap
I feel like I should offer you some quality bamboo tea in fine china
Strike Witches sent me on a huge Finland fad (Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen FTW!). That’s when I learned about the Winter War and the Continuation War, then about Finland’s very practical social programs, it’s love of salmiaki, and learned to love how Nokia took complete advantage of Microsoft. (Don’t mess with the Finns — they dethroned Steve Effin’ Balmer!)
Finland is on my bucket list. I even love the cold and snow!
My absolute favorite band is Finland’s own Nightwish. On a couple of their early albums, they sang a couple songs in Finnish, which was fascinating. Likewise, would love to see it sometime.
As an unabashed Beach Boys aficianado, that statement makes me both curious and horrified at the same time.
“Fucking hell, I feel seen!”
Believe it or not, this sentence works if you say it in a posh enough accent.
Don’t forget tires! Nokian (not to be confused with the phone company) makes by far the best inclement weather tires, IMO. I’ve pulled a big American SUV out of a ditch with a Subaru on Nokian Hakkapilleta WR G3 non-studded tires on packed, glazed-over snow before.
Wow, what a gaggle of mutants. I’m so glad a large portion of the ol’ community made it.
And then drove this thread into places unknown.
I can only say it was my favorite album when I was… three, I guess. And it taught me the word “acoustics.”
Afraid my polka exposure begins and ends with Weird Al! Metalhead, myself. Raised on Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Nightwish is my “grown-up” headbanger.
It was such fun being the only girl in comic book shops during the late 80s-early 90s. I was a Goth to ahem boot, and was even looking for and buying weird and obscure B&Ws. I had the buyers’ guides & knew exactly which books I wanted. Needless to say, they were efficient AF despite falling all over themselves & each other whenever I needed helping.
Being me, I never took them for granted, treated them far better than the male customers I saw, and always profusely thanked them for their kind attention.
