The artist’s otherwise obvious technical mastery seems to have been compromised by multiple and unstable perspectives and Baby Jesus, St. Margaret, and the mouth harp-playing angel all being “blessed” with hypotropia. WTF. And, to me, the most likely face based on an a sitting model seems to be that of Louis IX who died over 200 years before the dating of the painting. Contemporary 13th artwork of Louis IX is as one should expect: stylized and unrealistic. So, given the realism of Louis’s face, I’m wondering if the sitter was perhaps the artist himself, out of sort with the others, and well-tanned.
Indeed, I did for a while at the old place. I love that painting and that Benjamin quote…
The look from a woman who has escaped the belly of the dragon
Saint Margaret of Antioch 1630-34 by Francisco de Zurbarán
Today’s artword – Tenebrism – dramatic lighting
Quite the fancy getup for a shepherdess. Maybe that’s what happens when one explosively emerges from a dragon: You get a missal and new threads as a prize.
We went to the Bode Museum specifically for this exhibit

Oh, that sounds like a lovely exhibit…

that’s +20 hit points, right there. instant dismemberment. gonna need some serious healing magic.
JAR OF SERPENTS, played in melee, ends battle immediately. dismembered player forfeits their turns until SERIOUS HEALING MAGIC card is played in their favor.
i mean, it’s written in stone.
The surrealism, female theme, and snaking lines remind me of Frida Kahlo’s paintings.
