The goddamn Trump Administration (Part 2)

Sounds eerily similar to the federal deployment to Portland during the year-long BLM protests here. Larger scale for sure in LA and it was Bureau of Prisons tactical teams, but if 3000 federal troops couldn’t handle little ol’ Portland, what were they going to do in LA? It was only ever going to be for show.

And at what point does LAPD get prosecuted for violating California law for helping ICE?

Professional-grade (in the trade, in the industry) digital cameras have made good progress as far as portability, but the editors back at the office are likely wanting as much HD footage as possible, since that is the current standard for broadcast “television.” There’s a lot of miniaturization re chips and storage but those damn batteries still weigh a lot, even the Li-Fe etc. rechargables.

One thing to be aware of is HD video footage is unbelievably unforgiving. Even the slightest jiggle from the operator is going to look massive and to the viewer, nauseating (blurry). Thus the need for a tripod. There’s no correction for that, AFAIK, in post-production in the editing room. Even a steady cam rig w an HD camera is going to be really challenging to run away in from teargas.

It’s worth noting when he posted this saying what a “great job” they were doing, they hadn’t even shown up yet.

That aside, I don’t know how any of this is legal.

Seems like a good place for a semi autonomous robot to follow round with the batteries…

Tl;dr: probably not legal, but Trump will do it anyway and let the courts sort it out.

This should be the story on the Sunday shows tomorrow.

It was funny to see this play out in a reciprocal manner, when usually it’s just Trump doing the biggest self-owns by calling former members of his own staff morons and idiots and deranged and traitors… as if he was forgetting that he brought them on, these were his people. After making a big deal of only “hiring the best people,” he then absolutely slags off almost every single person in his first administration as the worst.

If Gavin Newsom wanted to show he’s ready to be President- he would have countermanded that order to the California National Guard as illegal.

As long as they don’t violate the proper hierarchy… you can’t challenge Trump, but punching down (such as on protesters) is encouraged…

Because they don’t actually care about immigration law. They want to terrorize people. Following due process and immigration law, getting real warrants and having trials in court doesn’t accomplish that. Deporting actual violent criminals doesn’t do that.

Kidnapping moms and kids off the street does that. Better still if those moms and kids have legal immigrant status. Best yet if they are actually citizens. Fascists don’t want to follow the law. That doesn’t scare the populace. Demonstrating that they can ignore the law and get away with it is what will scare people into compliance.

DO NOT COMPLY.

Showing up at a farm in rural North Dakota and taking away undocumented immigrant farm workers doesn’t accomplish their goal of terrorizing people. To create terror among citizens of the US, they have to do so visibly, where there are as many people as possible, and do so as violently as possible.

Anybody else have the horrifying thought that they are targetting pregnant immigrants as a backdoor attack on birthright citizenship? I cannot prove this, but it seems way too on par for these assholes.

That’s exactly what they’ve done. I read the indictment. It seems to be based on an incident when Abrego Garcia was pulled over in Tennessee in 2022, driving a truck with 9 other passengers, none of whom had ID. He said they were on their way back to Maryland after a construction job in . . . well now I forgot where, but not Texas. Prosecutors are claiming they have the same truck on traffic cam in Texas a few days earlier, being driven by Abrego Garcia. So they’re accusing him of being a member of MS13 and transporting people and drugs across state lines illegally. Trafficking, in other words. They’re also claiming he transported guns bought in Texas to Maryland. Now, is any of this true? I have no idea. We don’t have access to see the evidence. Presumably, some evidence was presented to the grand jury, but who the hell knows what that looked like. It’s not hard to get an indictment from a grand jury, especially since you can submit evidence there that would be inadmissible in a trial, like hearsay. So who knows, all their evidence could be hearsay from some other defendant they’ve stuck a deal with. If so, this case will collapse at trial. If it’s not a strong case, or it’s complete bullshit, this is not a case that would have been prosecuted under any previous administration. The feds normally do not prosecute unless they have a really air tight case. They don’t like losing. But this Justice Department? With all the career, nonpartisan prosecutors purged and left with only Trump toadies? They’re incompetent enough to file charges in a case they can’t win.

ETA: To be clear, when Abrego Garcia was pulled over in 2022, he was not arrested. It was a traffic stop, he was briefly questioned, and allowed to go on his way. Drugs weren’t found in the vehicle. Guns weren’t found in the vehicle. I assume the vehicle was never even searched because there was no probable cause to do so. So all of the Fed’s evidence is somehow connected to information gathered later, allegedly.
