The goddamn Trump Administration (Part 2)

On the plus side, if sanity is ever restored, it makes it really easy to undo a lot of these things (because they never legally existed in the first place and everyone involved knew it).

Trump really loves these unofficial, secret agreements. I noticed that when recently talking about tariff deals, he now says that the deals wouldn’t be signed agreements. Which suggests a) he doesn’t understand how these things work, b) he’s trying to set up a situation where he can pretend he’s got trade deals in place when he’s got nothing, and c) any “deals” he’s making are just illegal bribery schemes.

Another thing that would overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy while screwing over Social Security and Medicare in general. Definitely on brand…

Yep, because if your Social Security income is below, I think $25,000 a year, it’s not taxable. In 2022, the median annual Social Security benefits for people over 65 was about $18,000. Even for people up to $34,000 a year, only 50% of that income is taxable. So eliminating all taxes on Social Security income really only benefits the top Social Security income earners, while doing jack shit for most seniors. And yet, I can promise you my Facebook feed will be full of poor working class boomers praising Trump for doing this to lower their taxes.

He has no understanding of how most of us live our lives, nor does he care.

I faced this problem for a while in the former Soviet Union. Customs would hit you with duties for new stuff you brought in from abroad, such as computers, clothes, electronics, etc.

For obvious personal items you’d get around the duties we’d take everything out of the package and “dirty” it up so it looked like old personal items that you brought with you.

I also remember having to fill out the customs declaration, a copy of which would be stapled in your passport, and if you didn’t leave with everything you arrived with, they’d hit you with duties and sales taxes based on local estimates.

So glad I get to use these skills again. /s

I could see repubs advocating to set up a camp in Benghazi as some kind of payback for Hillary, or something.

Sure, makes their kind of sense. So would kidnapping her and imprisoning her there.

Josh Divine, Trump’s nominee to a federal court in Missouri, once bragged about securing multiple injunctions against Biden’s student loan program. But now that courts are issuing injunctions against Trump, he suggests that judges can’t enjoin the president. I wonder why his views changed!

Or is it fake? Checked the Twitter account and it’s been suspended.

It is the Internet and so very much is fake here.

That’s disappointing, but it doesn’t matter legally. Congress cannot abdicate its duty, and ignoring it doesn’t make T****’s actions legal. At any point, a judge can order the action illegal or unConstitutional.

If he actually gave a shit about people who work for tips, he’d eliminate the sub minimum wage and increase the minimum wage to $20/hr. And it’s easy to not tax Social Security if he eliminates Social Security…
