It seems there are two main factions driving all this shit:
-
right-wing, christo-fascist, racist, nazis. They probably detest the faction below but recognise its power and ability to deliver many things it values. They care not a jot for collateral damage as long as their own objectives are achieved.
-
wealthy techbros and 1%ers whose politics are mainly the politics of convenience - whatever drives division and which, in the chaos and confusion that ensues, enables their corporate power grab. Skum is the shameless, too-wealthy-for-there-to-be-consequences, poster boy but he is far from alone. He may or may not personally align his own values with the christo-fascist nazis, but it does not matter. He has adopted their values as a convenient route to achieving his other personal objectives.
It is difficult to see where these two will eventually find they no longer align - where the cracks will appear - if indeed they ever do. But perhaps one (of perhaps many) tactics to try to put an end to all this is to find those cracks and seek to widen them. The more they can be helped to fight among themselves, the less they can successfully fight the rest of us.
