Gas? They’re gonna use Cybertrucks and have no place to plug in 10 miles from the start.

Oddly enough, that innocuous review (from two weeks ago) is now gone. They’re definitely “managing” things.

I did not see an option for a review, but I was finally able to “report an issue.” (Apparently I had to find just the right zoom level? ) Just to be pedantic, I described the feature in question and specific location using the former name for The United Mexican States!

Democrats have introduced articles of impeachment in the House. They have zero chance of even making it to a floor vote because Republicans control the House. But at this point, I’m pretty sure if he were impeached and found guilty, he would just refuse to recognize the authority of Congress to do that.

The movies are certainly less… comic book-y than the comic books, but it’s still all Great Men who can do things no one else can, and become world experts on their own, overnight, and who are so far ahead of everyone else, that no one can reverse engineer the things they made even when using standard parts. (But they also can whip up a novel element on the weekend and magic up new technologies without any sort of infrastructure or materials or tools except the ones they made themselves.) And that comic book logic is all very much the Musk (and Trump) fantasy - that they know better than the experts, and Only They can accomplish the Great Things, without (real) help.

BTW I think nobody noticed, but in spanish, “Golfo de America” can be translated both as “The Gulf of America” and “America’s Lout”. So I predict that in less than a week we’ll be seeing jokes in the hispanosphere about trump renaming the gulf after himself.

The upheaval of the Kennedy Ctr. & Trump’s presence at the '36 Olympics Super Bowl reminded me: somewhere way back when, I recall someone making a comparison between left-wing/avant-garde* culture – the politicization of art – vs. right-wing culture – the aestheticization of politics.

*In this context, avant-garde as opposed to modernist (though its not where I remember seeing the left-wing vs. right-wing comparison):

FWIW.

Oh my freakin’ god.

He’s at a press conferences right now.

The United States is going to own Gaza.

How will the United States buy it?

We’re not going to buy it, it will be given to the United States.

Wtf?

One aspect of the Tony Stark comparison that I think actually holds up was that nearly all of the threats that Stark faced were born of his own arrogance and hubris, and it was mostly other people who paid the price for those bad decisions, often with their lives.

In Iron Man he was an arms dealer, and his adversary (tired of dealing with a spoiled, selfish playboy) used Stark’s own weapon designs to murder a bunch of folks and try to take him out.

In Iron Man 2 he behaves as a drunk and reckless asshole who drives away his closest friend who then feels compelled to hand over suit technology to a business rival that he believes will act more responsibly. Stark also gives tips to Ivan Vanko on how to build better laser-whips.

In Iron Man 3 he drunkenly gives a scientist tips on making the Extremis formula while having a one-night-stand and also manages to piss of a different, disabled scientist with his rude dismissals of the guy’s work.

In the Avengers Stark’s reactor technology helped create the portal for the alien invasion.

In Age of Ultron Stark created Ultron, even after being warned that it was a bad idea, which very directly lead to many deaths and the near destruction of earth.

In Civil War Stark got Zemo on a path for revenge by killing his family. He also needlessly kept the fight going between Avengers by not being able to forgive Bucky for what he did while under the control of Hydra.

I could easily keep going as there are several other examples, but you get the point. Guys like Musk are very dangerous to have around and like to brag they’re saving the world when they’re far more likely to destroy it.

He won the Arab vote in Michigan so the Palestinians are going to listen to him.

He owns real estate, he knows what to do with real estate. Bankrupt it?

We’re going to invade it and occupy it. We still have troops in the mid-east, after all… he’s going to forcefully ethnically cleanse Gaza and create another major refugee crisis.

It’s like a bad movie with a stereotypical dictator doing things that don’t even make sense in such a movie.
