The goddamn Trump Administration

I mean, it could be water? We’re comparing how we Americans consume beverages with how the Europeans do. They use small 6 oz glasses for OJ and water and we use 32 oz minimum. :grinning: I could see them giving him a 6 oz glass with 3 oz of water. :joy:

eta: but then again, it may be a double vodka, neat.

I got a chance today to “do my bit”.

(It’s a very fucking tiny, tiny bit.)

I bumped into a lovely lady from Florida visiting the UK with her husband - (they are visiting relatives).
Me: “Florida? Fantastic. You may have a chance to help us out in the upcoming elections.”
Her: Blank look.

I explained something I learned here about the seats going begging in the House of Reps.
(Someone posted a vid here.)
Bless her, she was gobsmacked that she could have an affect on the current admin (she and her English, but naturalised American hubby, are never-trompers). I made a decent fist of explaining the gap left by gaetz etc. in the house, and how she and her Florida friends could fix it.

She was over the moon that people outside the 'states actually gave a toss about the goings-on over there.
What surprised me more was that she had no idea of the upcoming elections.

I explained that if we/you managed to get 2 dems from Florida in, it could tie up the House.

I think we have at least one new ally stateside - hopefully, she’s gotta lot of friends - she did promise to spread the word.

(If I have any of these facts wrong, feel free to correct)

That is some very brown water.

That’s weird because when I play the video it looks clear to me. Someone in the Bluesky comments thought it was gin. But your freeze frame, it definitely looks amber.

eta: okay watched it again and I must have just looked at the bottom of the glass before it moved upwards. I now see amber like @OWYAC

Well, I didn’t personally take the freeze frame, so I can’t attest to its accuracy, and light refraction may be affecting things here.

Imported UK water, clearly.

Not clearly, brownly perhaps.

Nope. I wasn’t watching it closely enough.

Yeah, he’s definitely an alcoholic.

The whole rightoid talking point I’m so sick of is “Democrats hate DOGE because they want out of control and fraudulent government spending”. It’s such disingenuous bullshit.

The problem isn’t that there’s an effort to improve government efficiency (there isn’t – but let’s just assume there is for the sake of argument), it’s that you don’t just “delete” entire agencies, fire massive amounts of staff, or immediately terminate programs. You evaluate, write a report, and go to Congress with your findings and recommendations. Then Congress determines how to allocate funds.

You aren’t supposed to “move fast and break stuff” because that’s how you get people killed. And nobody is asking the obvious question: where are all these “savings” going? They sure as fuck aren’t being reallocated to help people, they aren’t going into reducing debt. They are going into someone else’s pocket.

With a R trifecta they can still meet all their terrible policy goals by defunding agencies they don’t like, they just can’t do it as quickly or loudly. In other words, it’s largely performative and is covering up real fraud and corruption going on behind the scenes.

I think money is going into Musk’s pocket and funnelled to Russia.

And, OT, can I just say that’s the coolest meme ever!

(I looked for a Sam Wilson as Cap salute, but I guess he doesn’t do a lot of salutin’ - can’t say I blame him).

Bloody good point.
Y’all might as well stop paying taxes immediately, it’s not like there’s gonna be anyone left to check or to chase you.
