Maps and cartography. Real, imaginary, speculative, fanciful, practical, humorous.
Details of three maps from the newly-released Atlas of Design Vol. 7, recently arrived in my mailbox.
A Map of Home, Stitched in Found Fabrics (quilt map of Manhattan’s Upper East Side), by Eleanor Lutz
Delicious View of U.S. Parks, by Wendy Shijia Wang & RJ Andrews
Hand Drawn Map of London (detail), by Jenni Sparks
Лондон?
I can’t look it up, but merkin von bankrupt’s being called a “short fingered vulgarian” came up at TOP. Someone put the words, “But I’ve never even been to Vulgaria!” in his stupid mouth, so I made this map:
@womanhood_deferred posted this wonderfully satirical 1870 map in the Count to Ten Thousand thread:
The website where I found th’ above map, Jamaican Caves dot org, made it interactive on the site, which is pretty cool.
Double Bubble Gum most popular candy in NY state?? [Remembrances of gum-snapping gal in our B’klyn neighborhood.] IMHO: Chewing gum is much less a candy and much more of an oral fidget toy.
This is my favorite map.
Covering Eurasia and North Africa. This shows every known city in the classical world, distinct buildings in those cities, the roads connecting them, and the miles between them. Sadly, the page showing the British Isles has been mostly lost.
The full map is a bit disorienting, because it has been distorted to fit into a wide, narrow space. It’s meant to display data conveniently rather than be pictoral.
-edited to correct some grammar.
Crossing this here.

So, yeah, this is where “Food Mommy” comes from. I don’t like the “chunk-e friend” bit though.
This has a strong Sean Tejaratchi / Liar Town USA vibe.
Why go straight with Kroger, though? Did the mapmaker think Kroger is funny enough on its own?
You were in high school in 1939? Whoa!
Impressive! Only two countries missing.
