That is a brilliant design. I gave my dad a copy of the Declaration of Independence printed in Boston a couple of years ago and he needs a frame for it. This would be perfect. I am going to shamelessly steal this idea! Love it.

If you Google “magnetic poster hanger” there are many very similar designs. Many look to be pretty good quality, most any length/color, and not expensive. That’s where I stole the idea

We definitely want to keep our “subscription!” Kitty ran into my room proudly showing me the “beautiful mail” her cat had received. Then ran back in later to show the many “interesting pieces of mail” the Princess had received, which the kid has kept safe for her (mom! A cat doesn’t have a safe place to keep these kinds of things!)
The latest one is quite beautiful. There is something about the print and the colors that evokes movement through water

I finally visited a hardwood lumber yard nearby that’s been on my bucket list for a while. This is a place that has specialty hardwood slabs that cost thousands of $. Not only do I not have that kind of money to spend on wood but I don’t have the space or time to work on those big projects.
However, they have off cut bins that are frankly amazing. I found a lovely piece of offcut local black walnut for $6. It came home with me and will become a serving tray present for my parents.

Beautiful.
I used some of it back in HS shop class for a lamp base. Decades ago. I believe it’s the horizontal stripe. I don’t recall what the other kinds were.
I did a lousy job of finishing it though.

Definitely oak is the alternating wood. I like the pattern and shape. It’s not too late to sand it down a bit and refinish it. It’s got a lovely mid century modern style to it!

I still have the oak and walnut butcher block table I made in junior high in my kitchen. It looks amazing. Then again, I love wood.

Points for saying “sand”. Our foundry shop instructor at high school would go wild whenever anyone in our class said “dirt” instead of “sand”. My project was a small hammer. Super-fun class.

I have no conscious memory of it being called that, but I could visualize the stuff used and it looked like dirt. And still I called it sand. Amazing how the brain works.
