Well, it’s pretty much moot at this point, since Trumpy seems to be walking it back. But I can’t see why the ICC would care about yet another USian law. After all, the act we want them prosecuted for is apparently legal under USian law also.
I do find it interesting that even back in 2002, the R’s felt like they needed protection from the ICC.
They (and a lot of Dutch people) care about the part that is legal justification for a military invasion of The Hague to free any US defendant being tried by the ICC.
Can you tell me that you can’t see Trump trying to pull that if one of his underlings that knows too much ends up there before the end of his presidency?
Hide? No way. They’d be televised for your entertainment. How would Survivor compete with real-live Hunger Games?
ETA: One bit of bright news, mayor and police side with protestors (beware auto-playing video):
The wife of a private contractor who works at the ICE facility in Portland told KGW that protesters were not allowing employees to drive off the facility’s parking lots. Federal police had to escort about 20 employees off the property. Portland police told employees the agency would not respond to help due to the nature of the protest, she said.
On Wednesday, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said he drove by the protests and commended participants on what he said was a peaceful demonstration against an agency “that has not fully lived American values of inclusion.”
“I want to be very clear that I do not want the Portland Police to be engaged or sucked into a conflict, particularly from a federal agency that I believe is on the wrong track,” he said. “If they are looking for a bailout from this mayor, they are looking in the wrong place.”
I don’t know; either way, as a direct reply, I thought it best to actually type out the quote I was referring to, rather than having it either displayed in a painful format, or having it get blocked and fail entirely to convey the message to its intended recipient.
I have an about:config fix to block animated gifs and animated pngs. However, it doesn’t always work. For example, if I want to check whether something’s safe to reblog by inspecting its file type, Firefox ignores its own about:config settings to animate it --or used to ignore them, I can’t find the bug reports when I search their bugzilla and can’t find if the bug has been solved.
