The Nazification of America

It’s a funny old world, binging around, infuriating, pathetic, surreal and out of control. Sometimes I feel like I have to question reality itself, because gat.dam, this is like the culmination of one of those apocalyptic acid trips in 1992, and wouldn’t it be nice to finally come down and be back in a world that wasn’t so entirely fucked up.

I wouldn’t consider that a “suspension” of the law, as it basically states that such a comparison, justified or not, will eventually be made.

He just seems to be clarifying that yes, sometimes the comparison is justified.

And that thread length is no longer applicable. Sometimes it’s appropriate right in the title of the first post.

I have suffered through five republican administrations now, and have seen the US sink deeper and deeper into an immoral morass of its own making.

I have no kids but do have nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. But at least I have the humanity to see that what drumpf, sessions, and all their enablers is doing at the border is Hitler-level wrong.

Never have I been SO furious at the lunatic right as I am right now.

Only 5? That would make you 44 years old at most.

Yeah there have been a lot of Republican presidents lately…

Even as late as the Obama administration, I thought the right could still be reasoned with. How wrong I was. Especially saying they could “still” be reasoned with. They never could. The myth of the reasonable moderate Republican is just a big shine on. They are all angry and hateful, but they cover it up when it’s not in vogue to be angry or hateful.

If they follow through, then good.

Not that I want the arrests, but people need to do more than put on hats and go for a walk with signs at this point.

If you can’t risk arrest (a lot of us can’t), you can still do things. Pass on the word. Volunteer to help out someone who might get arrested. If you have the cash, be willing to post bail. Offer childcare for protest days with the understanding that it may last a while. Make arrangements to drive people to the polls in November, especially those who are going to be disadvantaged by the system. Help people check to see if they’re registered to vote, and if they’re not, help them get registered. Teach your children why what’s going on isn’t acceptable.

Time is running out. There’s no room for “I’ll get around to it later.” Prepare for a long and hard fight, and prepare to fight it any way you can. DO. NOT. GIVE. UP. Grab hold of the arc of history and yank hard.

Oh, and if you’re a white, cis, heterosexual, and/or political neophyte (like many of us are)? Listen¹ to POCs and those in the LGBT+ community – don’t talk, listen. They are the veterans in these wars. The reason we’re here is because we haven’t been listening. Don’t just hear, listen. Learn. Support.

This is only the beginning.

¹This does not mean badgering POCs or someone in the LGBT+ community. It simply means listening to those who are speaking and genuinely considering what they have to say. Because they have been doing this a long time – generations, even – and have learned more than a few things in the process.

In case you need more motivation for the above.

Whoops. Forgot Jerry Ford. Who could forget Jerry Ford?
I didn’t include Ike because I was so young I don’t remember him.

It’s impossible to argue or compromise with someone who knows they are “right.”

I wouldn’t go quite so far as “ever.” Both support and opposition for FDR’s “New Deal” reached across both parties. But post-Civil-Rights-Act Republicans (after all of the racist Southern Democrats switched parties)? Certainly.

During WWII, there were even more Nazi rallies in the US than there are now, including huge ones in Madison Square Garden. There were opinion pieces in major newspapers about how the New Deal was advancing the Jewish agenda. The right wing during the FDR administration was easily as batshit crazy as it is today.

Oh, I don’t deny it; just that both the people holding those views and those opposing them were more bipartisan back then, as opposed to now, when it’s “The Party of Opposing all Christ Stood For in the Name of Christ” and “The Party of the Lesser of Two Evils.”

Don’t forget US senators “vacationing” in Canada to research planning its invasion.

That’s totally evil.

Agreed

As long as they get to kill, some people don’t care about rights or morals.

I don’t know what to write to people I do know, so I haven’t done that.

Do I recall correctly that you like podcasts? If so, and for any other Sarah Kendzior fans out there, she just started a podcast with Andrea Chalupa (who I don’t actually know of but I don’t want to give her short shrift just because I already know her cohost.)

There is just a teaser episode up right now, but it’s called Gaslit Nation, and I’m quite looking forward to the first real episode.

Thread.

I think, at first, at least, they’d hide the actual murders, but then again, with this admin, who fucking knows?
