The Nazification of America

I’m not going to click on that. I’m sure the end of the sentence is just as lovely as the begiinning :grimacing:

Is that Poe’s Law? I’m fuzzy on some of my internet laws, but isn’t there one about being unable to tell satire from reality?

The only ones I’m totally sure of are 34 (heh) and Godwin’s Law (temporarily suspended by Godwin himself, in light of recent events). No internet law degree for me :frowning:

Yeah, Poe’s Law is:

Without a clear indicator of the author’s intent, it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied.

Which appears, itself, to be subject to Stigler’s Law, in that someone else came up with it before Poe did.

I would add that the other parts rang way too true for comfort as well.

It’s horrifically wrong, in every sense of wrong and perhaps a few new senses that have to be created to keep up with Steve King.

It also relies on a certain view of personhood (inconsistent with religions which teach pre-existence and/or reincarnation) and it relies on a logical fallacy (of composition):

“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?”

For each person, if you go back far enough, some of their ancestors were concieved through rape. If their ancestors had not been conceived, then he reasons they would not exist. If each person would not exist, then obviously humanity would not exist. facepalm

It’s depressing that a song like that, written way back in 1966, is still so applicable today.

Point one is probably true enough, especially given modern understandings of the word “rape.”
Point two follows pretty well from the first; even an hour’s difference in sperm-reaching-egg would probably result in someone having different genetic code, and thus a different person.

But point three doesn’t follow from the first two: although there’d be different people, there would still be people, and plenty of them.

I believe he’s arguing that if we used a time machine and allowed eveyone who would have wanted an abortion to have one, the ripple effects would erase everyone alive. And since whatever rights people have now, they should also have in the past, therefore nobody should ever be allowed abortions.

The only reason people are having trouble understanding this simple reasoning is because it is impossibly stupid and awful in every way.

Sure, if we go down that road, we’ll have to wonder about the women who died in childbirth that was a result of rape, and wonder what might have happened with them if they had been able to end the pregnancy. Of course, I’m being silly now, thinking women are people.

Shit. You mean we might become better men, even if only in bed? But not affecting me and my thing, right? The rest of the world isn’t going to get all sensitive about being manly all at once, I can still be uniquely, apparently, an adequate bedtime partner instead of the norm, which is just a rapist who missed out on having a sister?

Um.

Can somebody just lead that dipshit away from the donor list? Or is it a perfect matchup. Markets must be involved, with a special exchange for dumbshits with money to feel vindicated for their shitty beliefs and criminal behavior.

His continued popularity is a testament to Sinclair media. His district covers Ames and a lot of dirt. Ask anyone from outside Ames who King is? Just a plain old conservative. There is virtually no non-Sinclair local news there. I listen to a lit of local radio when I drive places. I drove through NW IA during one of his racist outbursts in 2015. Not a word when even Fox was covering it.

As usual, the cops are coordinating with the Proud Boys and firing weapons at antifa

Hundreds still milled about the park and nearby streets about 12:45 p.m., and officers reportedly deployed pepper-balls at Southwest First Avenue and Madison Street, where a significant number of left-wing demonstrators gathered.

I really hate the way the traffic gets all snarled up on both sides of the river between the Hawthorne and Morrison bridges. Except for today when the Suckass Boys had to be escorted via “escape route” across both those bridges to my hood, where they boarded old buses… and were driven right back across the Morrison right past where they just were… because there’s literally no other way out of town if they’re going to Salem. I assume they’re going to do some kind of victory parade tomorrow where they aren’t outnumbered 8 to 1.
