The Proud Boy’s stupider, drunker, even more racist brothers, the "“American Guard” - drove an armored bus and attempted to kidnap a local antifash comrade.
Other comrades beat the AG down and hot the AG with weapons looted from the AG. And then dropped it on the AG turds.
Remember: there can be no “peaceful coexistence” with white nationalists, because white nationalists want to kill us all.
White nationalists must not be allowed space to gather or organize, because every time that they do, they attempt genocide. Whether against Arzibajanis, against First Nations, against Jews, against Poland - white nationalists have a long and rich history of doing genocide.
There is no “bOtH SiDeS”. There is good (us existing) and there is evil (those who would kill others for existing). Anybody who acts in support of white nationalism - directly or “indirectly” (disapproving of anti-fascists) - is in fact, a white nationalist who should be treated as such.
We cannot count on systems, rules, laws, code, or algorithm. There is no justice, not in this world. There is just us.
It’s scary, I know. Nobody asked to be born into this age old battle of good against evil. And you don’t have to punch a nazi to stop them. You can and should fight Nazis by all means at hand - legislative, social, direct, and indirect.
Chase them through the streets wearing a banana costume. Drum them out of office. Literally smuggle a twenty piece band into the legislature. Chain yourself to the doors. There is a lot that YOU can do to stop white nationalism without throwing a single punch.
Your comrades put their lives on the line to save yours when taking direct action.
AntiFascism isn’t an organization. It’s a reaction that all of us should display and exercise every time a nazi/white nationalist rears their head.
I wouldn’t go quite that far. Treating Antifa, and anyone claiming to act for the cause of anti-fascism, as if they were above reproach, is likely to lead to toxic people spotting that loophole and abusing it. I would have no problems condemning, for example, the Steve Scalise shooting, even had the shooter claimed to be acting as part of Antifa. A means like violence, even when initially employed legitimately, can become an end unto itself if its use is not restrained to necessity.
But certainly, anyone who criticizes Antifa as a group for having to resort to violence to oppose a violent, state-backed group, or anyone who criticizes an individual antifascist activist’s actions while ignoring, excusing, or apologizing for the actions of the white nationalists they’re fighting against, has to be presumed to at least have sympathies in that direction.
Citizens must have things in common and must also agree to forget many other things.
The NYT definitely brought out the only tested and proved counter to the genocidal supervillain trope: the rich prefer people to get along, because in real world wars revenue sources become unpredictable and sometimes they and some of their friends would get hurt or perhaps even come to an end before their four-score were up.
