I don’t know why, but of all of them, he’s the one that reminds me most of the Nazis trying to get out of it shortly after the war ended. ā€œYes, I joined the party. You had to. But I was never a real Nazi!ā€

I’ve read the Playboy interview with Albert Speer, and accounts from German nationals of their experiences with Naziism in ā€œThe Good Warā€ by Studs Terkel (read it if you’ve not); and they all seem to convey the notion that yup, the folks who said ā€œI’m not a Naziā€ actually were.
