Having our first fire of the season after working outside all day. Pulled the chairs out of the garage for the first time since New Year’s Eve.

Mr. Mickey mouse has a funny way of showing its gratitude of a winter full of free food.

It chewed up one of our comfy chairs in the garage. There was peanut evidence in the chair.

The effort of opening the drawer, rummaging through everything inside and then scattering it all over the bedroom floor was too much for Him.

Showed a friend this picture. She said “Giant Cat Boss is the hardest fight in the campaign”
After about 45 minutes of the family d&d game, she insists on sitting on the table and knocking over characters.

Sleeping on an old pillow I made the kid

Not a pet, but we’ve seen this stray around for the 4 months months or so (could be longer). Cat looked pretty rough but we could never get close to it, it was just too scared of us but it did look friendly. I tried a few times to leave food for it but an orange stray next door would scramble over and eat all the food.

Well today i come home from work and right by the walkway to head to the front door i see the cat lounging in the shade. It notices me and hides behind some nearby hedges we have, i sit down to see if it’ll come over and somehow that worked. He came over and laid back down in the spot he was before, so i took that as a possible sign that the cat was asking for help. So i got some little bowls and filled them with dry cat food and water, the cat even let me pet it :eyes:

I want to make sure the cat feels welcome so i kept the interactions brief. Hope it comes back soon, its def getting real hot in TX so will try leaving food and fresh water out again tomorrow. Hope maybe we can trap it and take it to a shelter, have him looked at and get the care it needs.

Went back out. I could see on our security system it was laying down on our walkway, took a closer look and I could see some wounds on its cheek that is healing

I don’t think the cat’s in bad condition per se but it does look kinda rough. I’ll give it a day and see how things look. I also worry that the local shelters might not have bandwidth to help, anyone in Austin have any cat shelter connections?

That is an incredibly exposed position for a feral cat to be in, and if it’s hot in Texas then lying on the pavement for the heat is another bad sign.

Do you have an enclosed porch, or stand-alone garage, or someplace where you can put the cat in a cardboard box with food and water away from the outside world until you can find a place to take it?

That cat is in bad straits.

I think the sudden change in the weather hit the cat hard, yesterday it was quite hot. But we fed it like 3 times yesterday, and it was at my front door this morning waiting for food and it seemed to be doing ok.

Gunna get some wet food today and will try calling some shelters to see if anyone has availability to help

Small update on the stray. I got the cat some wet food/broth because i haven’t seen it drink water, will mix it with the kibble i’ve been putting out.

I also called around and was told that if i trap the cat and surrender it to Austin Animal Control they’ll take it. They are not a kill shelter thankfully, although i am having a pang of guilt at the thought of surrendering it. That said i think its best for it because there’s a lot of strays in our area and wild creatures (huge raccoons, possums, etc) and the cat looks beat up.

I would entertain keeping it but between our 2 cats and my roommates 2 cats the cat dynamics at home is tapped out right now. Last kitten we rescued did not do well for the two weeks it was at our house, so much hissing from the other cats :sob:

Sounds like the best solution. Good luck to you and the kitty.

Thanks! I haven’t seen the cat since i just got home from work today, but will remain patient and wait for the stray to come back around for food. And if i do end up trapping it i will need to take an hour or two to drop it off at animal control since they’re only open in the mornings Mon-Fri :unamused:
