The Pets Thread

Morning crazy time. My lap, feet, and legs are chew toys/parkour obstacles.
I’m baby sitting (NOT at my house lol). They’ve grown a lot. The little girl had about 10 days of kitten g/i trouble, but everything is back on line now. They’ll probably be ready to go back to the shelter for adoption by the end of next week.

Do cats actually enjoy chasing the laser dot? Or do they find it aggravating?

I think they enjoy it. Cats usually can’t be arsed to do anything that they don’t want to do… at least in my experiences with the little critters. it does help exercise their predator instincts, too…

So hopefully, they don’t attack your rugs, shins, face, hands, friends, neighbors, other pets, etc…

I’m pretty sure mine know the red dot is not catchable, that they’re kinda being punked. They still chase it with what appears to be enthusiasm. Most of the time I have the “cat dancer” on hand after a laser pointer session so that they can get their claws and teeth into something too, just to make sure.

I had a cat that would sit in the hallway and use the call she normally used for birds. She’d keep it up until we showed up with the laser pointer. If we stopped too soon, she’d repeat the call. So I believe some cats like it very much.

Having said that, it’s also the game she’d get tired of the quickest. Something about never actually getting her paws on something tangible?

We had a cat that absolutely knew it where it was from, he just didn’t care. When we turned it off he look to see where we were pointing it to know where to go.

The dog also knew where it came from, but he would snap at it, generally ending the play session.

I read somewhere that cats have fun with the laser, but they can get irritated/frustrated when they can’t catch the red dot. My wife says that whenever we play with our cats, we should let them catch the bait a few times, so that they feel like they’re hunting and that they’re not getting rusty.

It is almost midnight and the red cat and the calico cat started to play tag. They are running around the apartment and using the furniture as a parkour circuit. The red cat usually chases the other cats, for their chagrin, but tonight he is playing the “prey”.

Other kitty. The third is really shy. I felt happy when she came out to say hello to her humans while I was still there. It was probably because the kiddo had already left.

It’s 70 degrees MN and Lucy (my sister in law’s dog) insists on a fire!

My wife got the miniature sofa on Temu for 9 bucks.

The cats were fighting over the prime spot on the regular sofa so she thought she’d give them one of their own.

It took a couple weeks for one of them to claim it.

The winner is Mrs. Seizure Kitty.
