The Pets Thread

What a handsome dude! I get “ancient philosopher” vibes from this photo.

Someone commented “welcome to Minneapolis” to Frank on that thread. :joy: I guess people have forgotten MST3K started on St. Paul’s PBS station.

Our first cat, Kugel, had to endure a 5 day trip from Salt Lake City to Maryland years ago. She had bouts of pitiful meowing on the way, and started pruning her belly once we made it to our new home. She adjusted pretty well though.

My daughter is at the airport and she passed along this photo of a pet…axolotl!

???
emotional support axolotl?
cool. cool…
i wonder how that works? under the seat? overhead bin? ticketed seat of its own?

don’t get me wrong! loves me some axolotl(opodes), just many questions arise as to how the logistics of this particular, critically endangered, amphibian most excellent creature, just happened to be in a half-gallon water bottle jar in an airport somewhere?

i do hope your daughter’s flight was otherwise uneventful and all passengers arrived safely, purloined axolotl, and all.

eta: i know that is not your daughter’s bag.

She said TSA had to test the water, and she thought the water jug was a weird choice but it does make sense: large enough, clear so TSA can see, and the opening is enough for oxygen while being less likely to tip over and lose all the water in an instant.

So bizarre. Didn’t even know it was legal, but apparently so.

Her flight has been delayed at least twice now, so who knows? But thanks for your good wishes.

Sure… axolotl get to fly in the cabin, but not rabbits. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

(Not meant as a negative to our dear @Axolotl )

no, man…
axolotls fly first class.
bun-buns fly buisness, hares in coach.
classist? sure! i didn’t make up the stupid rules, otherwise, my emotional support feral street chicken would get airfare for free.

no. no… that’s all just silly. emotional support feral street chickens can fly on their own.
like really fly… like, flap-flap, over your house and shit, fly.
wish they understood frequent flyer miles and would just kite off too somewhere else.
rabbits travel over land. just don’t put 'em on a Greyhound.

Mr. Feral went to the vet today, he’s basically kind of healthy other than the high glucose in the upper 300s. It should be under 200 and closer to 150.

Cat specific insulin was over 150 bucks a month, the vet said Lantus, a human insulin, was a good alternative at 35 bucks a vial that should last about 2 months depending where his dosage ends up.

Two weeks with new insulin and then another Libre monitor gets installed.

High glucose isn’t ideal but it’s better than low glucose.

Our original goal was remission, now it’s keep him symptom free.

6 months ago his back legs weren’t working, now they are, he can run up the stairs and jump on the counter. Getting his legs to work is a win.

He was a trooper when they had to ultra sound and siphon his bladder with a giant needle for a test.

Watching the birdies to distract him.

His glucose is in the toilet but he’s acting more normal.

He hasn’t been up here since last fall.

He has to go from the couch to an end table to the kitchen counter to the top of the fridge to the cabinet.

The counter to the fridge is a giant leap for him.
