Gosh, it’s been so long since I’ve seen Torchwood. Maybe it’s time for a rewatch.
That first season is half and half, but man Children of Earth is just great and very fucking dark. Like, the darkest Doctor Who ever got, and sometimes Doctor Who can get dark.
Also, Nana Visitor shows up in the 3rd season!
Holy nuts, it’s Capaldi in another pre-Doctor, Doctor Who role? Man, someone needs to get him into the director chair and just let him live his dreams.
If you read the link mindy posted there, it says that Frobisher is supposed to be a descendant of Caecilius, and their stories act as bookends. Caecilius’s family is saved, Frobisher’s family is sacrificed.
It’s word of God kind of background, but I’m good with it.
I’m a day or two late responding to this… but “normal” is a pet peeve of mine, for a long time now.
What’s “normal”? It depends largely on who defines it. “Normal” for neurotypical folks isn’t the same as “normal” for neurodivergent types. “Normal” for color-blind people wouldn’t be the same as “normal” for average-sighted people, which is again going to differ from those of us who are near-sighted, far-sighted, astigmatic, or a combination of two or more…
While certain standards (like 20/20 vision) are useful, it gets a metric crapton more complicated when it comes down to people and their views. I very much prefer “average”, “expected” or “typical” to describe people instead of “normal”, and even that gets tricky sometimes, given how education, culture, and upbringing all play roles in what’s considered “normal”… and “normal” can change with time. As Dr. Jey McCreight reminds us,
I’ve found it helpful to discuss “who gets to decide what is a disorder or not” with historical examples of cis het white men labeling women as hysterical and underfunding research around women’s health, as well as modern deaf and blind communities that don’t want to be “cured”
I don’t think “normal” is the goal politicians should shoot for. I think they should aim to help as many people as possible with the power they hold. Once people see that politicians are fighting for them, they’ll come out in droves to support active candidates. Words are wind; give us some actions. But then, I’m not really “normal”, politically speaking… am I?
Exactly. It’s sort of like “common sense” in that regard.
Yep.
when is someone gonna recall this asshat.
Not surprisingly, those who want it were elated when, in 2018, California’s leading Democratic candidate for governor virtually promised to deliver it.
“I’m tired of politicians saying they support single-payer but that it’s too soon, too expensive or someone else’s problem,” Gavin Newsom said.
Gah… have a spine, dipshit. Stand up for what’s right… what’s the thing people have been saying? they are sick of politicians with their fingers in the wind? Yeah… me too.
Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo discusses the Democratic unwillingness to wield power as being a core problem with the party.
Now that’s what why I love today’s Dems – they’re always tough on Iran!
A whole think tank to give themselves permission to abandon trans people
That article just assumes as fact that the modern Democratic Party is controlled by the far left. I don’t understand how this shit gets reported like that without a fact check. God, I wish the Democratic Party was controlled by the far left, but it isn’t. And it never has been.
“They’re saying, ‘we need a moderate voice, because we’re losing everyone and we have to come back to the center and get away from woke, identity politics,’” said one Democratic donor adviser who heard Jentleson’s pitch. “They want to become a research and communications hub for that, which is great, but we already have a bunch of entities who do that.”
Jesus fucking Christ, the moderate voice is the one that controls the Democratic Party! If it weren’t, AOC would have been named Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee instead of a moderate centrist who was literally on his deathbed. WTF are these people even talking about?!
