The problems of the Democratic party

A thread for discussing the failures of the Democratic party…

"He barked out one appalling claim after another, but don’t you worry: Democrats are getting ready to fight back with their little paddles,” said The Late Show host Stephen Colbert.

“That is how you save democracy: by quietly dissenting,” he continued. “Or bidding on an antique tea set. It was hard to tell what was going on.”

Colbert then brought out his own paddle, which urged Democrats to “Try Doing Something.”

Every single time the Democrats win, they think “we should reach across the aisle and give Republicans some stuff they want.”

Every single time the Democrats lose, they think “what if we were more like Republicans the next time?” And even when that strategy makes them lose worse, they repeat the cycle.

We are really going to need the expanded emojis before I can “like” anything in this topic

Missing that vital “screaming and puking while on fire” emoji necessary to convey the appropriate feeling.

“Save Medicaid”? “Protect Veterans”? Gosh, if only we had people in government positions with any authority to try to push for that sort of thing. Someone to represent us. “Representatives”, if you will.

His agent says no; but then again, the agent makes shit if he leaves his $100 million contract. Let’s hope the agent knows where Smith’s priorities are.

Yep… I’d guess that Smith’s priorities are whatever makes Smith more money… He’s making lots of progressive sounds, but finding a loud millionaire on our side is not gonna win us elections and it’s certainly not going to fix this death spiral we’ve fallen into with Trump… I wish the chattering classes would get that through their heads.

As far as I know… WTF? He’s not wrong about NAFTA and the problems it exacerbated, but the runaway factory long predates NAFTA. I don’t think tariffs will do anything other than hurt American consumers (which includes unionized labor) with higher prices and businesses will continue to go to where labor is lowest. :woman_shrugging: But that thinking is why some union members do support Trump - because they believe that he’s at least trying to address the problem (he’s not, but…).

Not sure he said or wrote that, but it sure does sound like him.
