Somebody please tell me the Dems aren’t that stupid…
If Musk is suddenly considering cozying up to the Democrats, he’s got an ulterior motive, and it won’t be anything that helps us. Musk is out to help Musk only, and he’s about as trustworthy as the scorpion was for the frog. If the Democrats trust him, they (and we) will drown.
If that makes me The Asshole for not being willing to ally with anyone and everyone, so be it. But Musk has shown us who he is1, and that ought to be enough for me and anybody with a lick of sense to be extremely cautious about dealing with him in any way. In Musk’s case, I’ll proudly wear the YTA as a badge of honor.
Could he eventually be redeemed? Maybe, I suppose, but redemption requires genuine remorse and atonement, and Musk’s shown zero signs he’s capable of it yet. He’d have to start by giving away every red cent he owns and swearing himself to a life of manual labor on behalf of those he’s hurt before I’d begin to consider it possible for him. Until he does that, he is untrustworthy and should be treated like it. I’m not sure he could be an ally without it biting us eventually, and he cannot be allowed to evade or ameliorate the fact that he was fully complicit in the current coup that’s destroying our country.

After some consideration, I kinda regret the hyperbole in my post, which was wtitten in a fit of temper… but I still agree with the essence of it. I believe Musk is too self-centered and mercurial to be a reliable ally to traditional Democratic goals. It might be possible to use him to an advantage if he ever gets miffed enough to turn traitor on Trump, but it would take veeeeery careful handling.
You are NOT being hyperbolic. I never wanted him to touch our governmental agencies and I don’t want that man anywhere near our government ever again. And if the Democratic Party mucky mucks ever bring him into the Democratic party, I’m leaving the party and I’ll never give another to them and I’ll do my best to convince others to follow my lead.

Nah. This has sent me in a bit of a spiral. I know people hate third party candidates but… If musk can inflict trump on us and then just toggle parties and run the same con again…
I truly feel lost in this world. I do think the “fight” is a distraction. I think it’s fucking fake. I think we are being manipulated. Even if it is real it is not the time for popcorn. Like some one needs to hurt one of these men if they are truly vulnerable now in a way from which they can never recover. But they won’t. Just words and pictures that will scroll by… because it’s fake. Bread and circuses. And yeah irt the comments on bluesky I think that if you’re buying popcorn to enjoy watching the show then i do think it’s childish… unless you just have a cushy view of the ring from another country or something. If your emotions are being manipulated by their act it’s because it is an act to manipulate emotions. And if hearing that gets you to attack others to preserve your buzz or deny that you can be tricked sometimes then you are being childish. I’m with the old “out of touch” Dems on this one. Been manipulated by this shit enough.
I am thinking it is half real. Musk is a charlatan but it doesn’t seem like kayfabe is his thing and I’m guessing he was arrogant enough to think the president would stay bought. Trump on the other hand…this kind of courtier drama is absolutely his style. He fills up headlines with it all the time. It’s a show unless there is a real way Musk can hurt him back.
To me the distinction between fake and real is muddier. They are narcissists and public figures of the sort whose entire identities are mediated things that have been artfully shown to us. Like that’s the base level of real here. They are taking conflicts public and airing the things they want to air. I think people like this gain too much power due to the sense of genuine reality the rubes get.
So do I think Musk is acting this all out because he’s secretly a genius and this has all been him pretending to have a drug addiction? Hell no. He’s a drug addict. Fuck it… like, who isn’t at some point before they die?
But is this a meaningful exchange? Nah… in part just because these kinds of asses aren’t going to be telling on themselves so whatever they whine about is what they think makes them look good.
IOW if Trump deports Musk I’ll believe this was real, like that. If Musk leaks Trump’s crimes fully, same. But I think TACO and Musk are just flooding the zone with their general bullshit and whatever bot armies they command to carry the noise further. And I think they are only doing so because they think they have something to gain by it. And… one or both might be right about that?
