Let’s remember that the israeli education system is meant to generate this kind of opinions, so every new generation is adding new zionists. There will always be exceptions, true, but when your system is designed to teach uncontrasted zionist beliefs… you get zionists. Also most new inmigrants are zionist colonists. You don’t go to the occupied lands if you don’t believe in the message.
This… all of this, was a car crash in slow motion we have been watching unravel for several decades. Everyone has its rubicon. For me it was the killing of Isaac Rabin. Not a progressive president precisely, but he was killed because he was willing to compromise. It made me realize these guys would stop at nothing to achieve their goals, and they have had time in spades to set up their game.
I have Israeli friends living there, and they are thinking of moving to spain with a pre-retirement (they are almost the age of retirement so…). The wife fled Argentinian dictatorship in the mid-70’s, they are both “progressive” and certainly not zionists. They told me they have been pressured to accept the retirement and leave quietly by both professional peers and neighbors. Last time they were here they told me they try to shame them whenever a protest is organized against the current goverment actions. No stones or bullets yet, but…
