If he did, I guess I must have missed it. Did Trump ever share the details or even the rough outline of a deal that would have offered concrete protection or security guarantees for Ukraine’s borders?
Wrong he. Zelenskyy made clear he would only sign an agreement with security guarantees. He wouldn’t have shown up to sign it unless that was promised. It was an absolute requirement from the Ukranian side.
I don’t think any details were ever shared. Marco Rubio was on CNN last night all indignant about how Zelenskyy had the nerve to demand security guarantees without signing the deal. As if to say, “sign your rights away then we’ll figure out the other stuff later”. You wouldn’t buy a new car with the promise of potentially having a warranty in the future. Why should Zelenskyy sign a vague treaty giving up mineral rights to his entire country without getting anything in return for it? That’s not a negotiation, that’s a shakedown.
You noticed too, did you?
Before the election, I remember hearing on the BBC World Service interviews with Republican women and why they could not vote for Kamala Harris. Among their various fears, the primary reason was that she wouldn’t be able to negotiate.
“Other countries would walk all over her” I remember one of them saying.
It is clear Republicans have no idea what negotiations are or how they are carried out. They seem to think you just walk into a room unprepared and shout at the opposing party until they give in.
Fuckface admits talking to Putin “a couple days ago”. Gee, I wonder if this meeting came up. The meeting was an ambush.
Whether or not Trump might have privately promised Zelensky a deal with security guarantees is one thing. But you said that he actually tried to make such a deal, which is a very different thing considering that the man is spouting lies every minute of every day.
Besides, Zelensky making clear that he wouldn’t sign a agreement without security guarantees yet still being willing to show up at the White House before such a deal was reached are not mutually exclusive.
Only if you think Zelenskyy is an idiot. I do not think so.
Face it - he was promised security guarantees by T**** and T**** reneged. It’s what he does all the time.
" Nobody wanted to see what happened last Friday, but I do not accept that the U.S. is an unreliable ally," Starmer said. “The U. S. has been a reliable ally to the U.K. for many, many decades and continues to be.”

What are we arguing about here? I never once disagreed that that may have happened. What I was disagreeing with was your post that said:
I remain unconvinced that Trump ever actually did try to make a deal that would secure Ukraine’s borders, whatever false promises he may have made.
But you and I most certainly agree that Trump is a duplicitous piece of shit who is not acting in good faith to secure a just peace for Ukraine, so maybe we should leave it at that.
Poor wording on my part, then. T**** made a deal that Zelenskyy would agree to, signing away mineral rights in exchange for security guarantees. Considering that T**** kept referring to rare earth minerals as “raw earth” it’s quite likely he didn’t understand what he was negotiating. I think there is zero chance Zelenskyy agreed to a deal with the US that was anything short of what Ukraine needed.
Then T**** had his weekly 1:1 call with his boss, Vlad, and was informed of what he’d agreed to and Putin told him to 86 the deal or there would be some “raw earth minerals” in his diet Pepsi.
Football guy masquerading as a senator: “Our basketball team’s playing hardball, but you know what? They aren’t even in the game. It’s going to be our soccer coach and the opposing team’s basketball coach and the football team that will end up deciding who wins that basketball game, and our basketball team isn’t even going to get to play.” Or something that about makes as much sense.
I heard a great suggestion today, instead of Zelensky giving a mineral deal to the US, he offers a 50/50 split to Europe and China in exchange for security guarantees…
I don’t know if China could be counted on for that, given their general support for Russia/Putin… plus, they don’t need mineral rights, I don’t think?
